Temple Square Performances presents a special evening of opera in the Assembly Hall on Temple Square on Saturday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. This free event is open to ages eight and older. Tickets are not needed.
Seven opera singers, including two Metropolitan Opera singers, will grace the Assembly Hall stage for a ninety-minute performance of opera’s finest arias and ensemble pieces. Singers include Barry Bounous, bass/baritone; Elaine Carr Brewster, soprano; Ariel Bybee, mezzo-soprano; Clara Hurtado Lee, soprano; Laura Garff Lewis, mezzo-soprano; J. Arden Hopkin, baritone; and Stanford Olsen, tenor. They will be accompanied by pianist Denise Farrington. Special guest narrator is Utah’s most famous soprano, JoAnn Ottley.
Aria/solo pieces include Largo al factotum, from Rossini’s The Barber of Seville; Song to the Moon, from Dvo?ák’s Rusalka; Dein ist mein granzes Herz, from Lehár’s Land des Lächelns; Habanera, from Bizet’s Carmen; and two selections from Borodin’s Kismet: And This Is My Beloved, and The Olive Tree.
Ensemble pieces include Soave sia il vento and Prenderò quell brunettino, from Mozart’s Così Fan Tutte; Viens, Malika, from Delibes Lakmé; Belle Nuit, from Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffman; Sola, Sola in Buio Loco and Là ci darem la mano, from Mozart’s Don Giovanni; and Un di, se ben rammentomi, from Verdi’s Rigoletto.
