Nineteen-year-old Latter-day Saint missionary Elder Maxwell Fish, who is from San Antonio, Texas, has been hospitalized and underwent surgery as a result of an attack on Friday morning, February 24.

According to Church News and Church spokesperson Sam Penrod, Elder Fish and his companion, who are serving in the Colombia Cali Mission, were victims of a robbery and assault in Popayán, Colombia. They were attacked in the street and Elder Fish was stabbed in the neck.

“His companion was not physically harmed and is receiving counseling,” Penrod said. “Other missionaries in the vicinity of this crime have been moved out of the area as a precaution.”
