During this Christmas season when our thoughts are turned to the Savior, I’d like to share with you some of my favorite books that I read in 2023. I hope you find a few that you’ll want to put on your Christmas list for the non-fiction fan in your life!
Improving your Prayers and Wisdom for Latter-day Saints from Walnut Springs Press are the perfect stocking stuffers for anyone on your list. Improving our prayers is something that many people have concerns about, and this little book is packed full of ideas that you can implement one at a time or try all at once. Similarly, Wisdom for Latter-day Saints has ideas of how you can improve your life and be better. From magnifying your calling to being bold in your day-to-day life, both of these books are based in scripture and quotes to help you make changes and be your best self.
From Grace to Charity by Emily Belle Freeman: after spending many years researching grace, Emily Belle Freeman shares her life experiences and teaches how the grace of the Savior applies to everyone. Published by Deseret Book, available in hardcover and ebook.
Seekers Wanted by Anthony Sweat: not a new release, but this book is perfect for someone who wants to learn about getting answers to questions. I highly recommend this one. Published by Deseret Book, available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook.
Stay Thou Nearby by Multiple Authors: I couldn’t stop talking about this book for weeks after reading it. I loved hearing the perspective of the authors on all worthy members getting the priesthood in the 1970’s. Published by Deseret Book, available in paperback and ebook.
Undeniable by Susan Easton Black: a short read that is packed full of information on the three witnesses. I loved this one and the rich details it provides that might not be widely known. Published by Covenant Communications available in paperback and ebook.
Women and the Priesthood by Sheri Dew- I would say that this is a must read for all women in the church. I really liked Sheri Dew’s perspective on women’s role in the kingdom of God. Published by Deseret Book and available in paperback and ebook.
Blessed are Ye by Brad Wilcox: absolutely loved Brad Wilcox and his brother trading off, sharing stories and insights talking about the Beatitudes. Published by Covenant Communications available in hardback and ebook.
Prophets See Around Corners by Sheri Dew: a very faith-building read from a woman who has worked shoulder-to-shoulder with many prophets and has seen firsthand how they work to help us. Published by Deseret Book available in hardcover and ebook.
She Did: Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Faith by Emily Cushing: this book was a 10/10. I loved reading about incredible women who accomplished so many things with their faith in God. Inspiring and uplifting stories that will stay with you. Published by Deseret Book available in paperback and ebook.
Anxiously Engaged: A Biography of M. Russell Ballard by Susan Easton Black- an incredible man that lived an extraordinary life of service. This book highlights his faith and testimony as a dedicated servant of the Lord. Published by Deseret Book available in hardback, ebook, and audiobook.
Our Day Star Rising by Jeffrey R. Holland: probably my #1 favorite book this year. Jeffrey R. Holland just has a way with words, and having him commentate the New Testament is something that I will be rereading over and over again. Published by Deseret Book, available in hardback, ebook, and audiobook.
I hope you’ll find the perfect book for the reader on your list, or give yourself the gift of reading this Christmas. Happy holidays!
