N.R. BROIN: Thanks for inviting me to share my thoughts in 1 Timothy 4. This is another wonderful scripture on thanksgiving. It is helpful to know that the word "meat" in the King James Bible does not mean the "flesh of animals" as we use the word today. It means "food." Most translations of this verse translate it something like, "They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving" I do not believe we should be ordering or commanding others to abstain from certain foods. All the things God has created are good in the proper use. God gives us principles in the Word of Wisdom to help us decide how to use the foods He has given us, and it is up to each of us to decide, through study and prayer, what is the right course of action for ourselves and to allow others the same freedom. Certainly we should use whatever foods we use with thanksgiving. If you are interested, I have written more on this topic here: https://discoveringthewordofwisdom.com/about/the-word-of-wisdom/wow-faqs/command-to-abstain/

How do you interput 1Timothy chapter 4 verse 3-4 Paul talking about latter-day apostasy... "...forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:)

I just watched one of several films where turkeys are beaten up, slammed against walls, kicked, have their necks twisted just a bit, and bullied before they stuffed into cages, hung by their feet, etc., by the workers. I could never eat a turkey after seeing that. If I eat any meat, it will be a chicken that has been running around outside on an organic farm.
