Thank you so much for sharing this incredible story of hope, faith, and bravery. My nephew, elder Brighton Kriser, is also in your mission. We are so grateful for your service at the front lines. Love, TIffany and family

Great story. Just wondering if you are related to Benjamin L. Bowring who was a sealer in the Salt Lake Temple in 1973?

What a powerful story! I was in tears. I hope you family wasn't too worried about you, knowing you were in Ghana and knowing what was going on with the flooding. You both were very brave and very blessed. God does indeed watch over his missionaries!

What a great and inspiring story! Your comment about learning to know Heavenly Father on a personal basis brings to mind the feelings of the Saints in the Martin Handcart Company and that they had learned that same thing. We can all be closer as we obey and are watchful. He is indeed close and cares so much. How grateful I am for that knowledge. Thank you for sharing this tremendous experience that is so personal. It is a story that will uplift all who read it. Keep to the faith and remember all that the Lord has chosen to give to you!

I am a Ghanaian LDS living in Europe. I saw a footage of the floods in the news and I know how it floods very quickly especially in Accra. Elders thanks so much for your bravery and I know Heavenly Father directed you all along. May He bless you abundantly for your courage and service to Ghanaians.

Mahalo for your inspiring story. Tears freely streamed down for the courageous heart and deeds rendered at such special time of needs. You are TRULY a servant of the Lord and your acts of kindness will not go unnoticed. It is engraved in our hearts. This will be surely shared with my Sunday School Youth to help them see, feel and appreciate the power of the Priesthood when commandments are sincerely observed. Love you and Bless you both and your respective Ohanas (families) for your heroic and humbled acts of love ... Others before self act. Mahalo and Aloha ELDERS!

I, too, am struggling to comment because of the tears. What an amazing story! You lived through an experience in which you came to know, feel, and appreciate the depth and immediate presence of Heavenly Father's love for each of us when we need Him the most. He 's always there, never leaves us alone. Thank you for sharing this life-changing story!

Great story but hard to believe the 2 year old was left behind alone in those conditions... So grateful for your heroics and glad the bishop's entire family, including the 2 year old, were safe! So glad we didn't hear a totally different story about 2 missionaries lives being lost... The Lord truly was protecting you...!
BrightJune 23, 2015

It is through tears that I write. What a profound expression of Heavenly Father's faithful, constant care. Throughout the entire letter I was spellbound, astounded by the dangers these steadfast missionaries experienced and survived. But it was when I read of the fulfillment of Elder Bowring's promise in his patriarchal blessing and in his setting-apart blessing that my tears came - tears of gratitude for that heavenly connection so ineffably precious to each child of God who reaches for it. Thank you, Elder Bowing, for telling your story. Thanks to your family who sent you on your mission. Thank you, Meridian Magazine, for publishing this letter. It will feed many hearts. Our prayers for the faithful missionaries do not go unheeded.

There can be no denial, Heavenly Father loves the missionaries and provides for their escape in dangerous conditions. A wonderful experience that can be shared in a Sacrament meeting.
Bill ZickgrafJune 22, 2015
Thank you Elders for trusting in the Lord, seeking his help and guidance and having the courage to do what you are prompted to do. Your letter brought tears to my eyes as I read of all the good you and others did in those raging waters. It made my day.

What a powerful mission story...I feel like I was watching a movie while reading. Surely the Lord was with you the whole time and you were the instruments to save and bless the others. Your courage and bravery are admirable. Lots of missionaries who risk their lives in times like these deserve to be applauded and be given medals of honor...Real unsung heroes!

We lived on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus some years ago, and five college students (all male) from Ghana chose to be baptized. Since the location was inland, we constructed a tub large enough for the ordinance. Not one of those students had ever been submersed in water, and it took courage for them to go through the experience. However, our son in Texas has a Ghanaian Stake President who was raised near the seashore and probably grew up swimming. Amazing story of rescue. Thanks.

I'm so grateful for your willingness to help save lives. It is very inspiring and helps people realize they need to pray and listen and to rely upon their Heavenly Father because they will all need Him to get Home safe or saved according to His Will. You also have great ability as a writer. Your story could be made into a movie. Of course water scenes cost more but I wish it could be made into one. You wrote it so visually.

Thank you for sharing your real life experience with the presence of God. Hearing your experience with placing the baby in the garbage pail reminded me of the story of Moses in the basket in the bullrushes. Our God is a very real help in time of trouble. I pray you find a new place to live and continue your wonderful Ministry.

These Elders are true servants of our Savior! Thank you, Elder Bowring, for writing a journal-keeper of your harrowing account.
EmmanuelJune 22, 2015
It is a heroic and faith fulfilling event. The Lord we worship answers prayers. As a Ghanaian i am proud of what the missionaries did. I am not sure where story that Ghanaians do not swim because of their body. That over generalization and stereotyping. There are Ghanaian swimmers everywere
