What a great and inspiring story! Your comment about learning to know Heavenly Father on a personal basis brings to mind the feelings of the Saints in the Martin Handcart Company and that they had learned that same thing. We can all be closer as we obey and are watchful. He is indeed close and cares so much. How grateful I am for that knowledge. Thank you for sharing this tremendous experience that is so personal. I am a Ghanaian LDS living in Europe. I saw a footage of the floods in the news and I know how it floods very quickly especially in Accra.

Great story but hard to believe the 2 year old was left behind alone in those conditions... So grateful for your heroics and glad the bishop's entire family, including the 2 year old, were safe! So glad we didn't hear a totally different story about 2 missionaries lives being lost... The Lord truly was protecting you...!

It is through tears that I write. What a profound expression of Heavenly Father's faithful, constant care. Throughout the entire letter I was spellbound, astounded by the dangers these steadfast missionaries experienced and survived. But it was when I read of the fulfillment of Elder Bowring's promise in his patriarchal blessing and in his setting-apart blessing that my tears came - tears of gratitude for that heavenly connection so ineffably precious to each child of God who reaches for it. We lived on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus some years ago, and five college students (all male) from Ghana chose to be baptized. Since the location was inland, we constructed a tub large enough for the ordinance. Not one of those students had ever been submersed in water, and it took courage for them to go through the experience. However, our son in Texas has a Ghanaian Stake President who was raised near the seashore and probably grew up swimming. Amazing story of rescue. Thanks.

It is very inspiring and helps people realize they need to pray and listen and to rely upon their Heavenly Father because they will all need Him to get Home safe or saved according to His Will. You also have great ability as a writer. Your story could be made into a movie. Of course water scenes cost more but I wish it could be made into one. You wrote it so visually.
