A certain man sat weeping in the back of the chapel. A concerned sister went up and asked what was the matter. The man said "I am so sad because someone just bought my dad a car." Puzzled the sister asked, "Did your father get in a car crash?". "No, you don't understand. I wanted to be the one to buy my dad a car. I've been saving my money to buy him a car for the last 5 years and almost had enough saved, but I had to spend the money on unexpected bills. So I started saving again and I intended to buy him a car in another 5 or 6 years, but dad's brother gave him a car before I could get one for him. I am so mad at my uncle over this for robbing me of a blessing." Again confused the sister said, "That's an interesting perspective. If someone gave my dad a car, I would be really happy for my dad and grateful that he has an brother that loves him enough to give him a car."

I worked very hard to personally research the names in my temple list. I would rather dump them in the temple file then have them released to the temple name trolls that freely abound on FamilySearch. My philosophy - if you want family names to do, do the work of finding them. This seems a push by the laziest members so they can feel good about doing 'family history'.

I have a number of family names that were reserved by other people back in 2007 and 2008. Those are ones I would be very pleased to see released so that I can complete the work.

This is a very good thing. Personally I am only concerned with doing direct family names where I knew the person. The rest I am fine with someone else doing. I heard awhile back this could happen from a sealer. In my temple district each stake has box where you can put your names in for people to help you with your work. Considering the amount of time it takes to do all the work for one name I am glad there are ways to help with this.

Why does this feel like a punishment to me? You will do your reserved ancestors name in the next few months OR ELSE.... It seems pretty stern to me.

A very positive move, the glory of this work is the receiving of ordinances not who performs the ordinance. It is a work of love not recognition.

There are temple shared names that have been sitting 5 years or longer. That situation is not expeditious.

There were a lot of names reserved by my mother. She died unexpectedly four years ago. After three years the names were still reserved but without cards printed. We did all the names where we had cards, but couldn't do the reserved names. Someone at the Family History department went in and released the names for me so we could start on those names, but it had been three years by that time. This is a good policy I think.

Interesting. Infers there is tons of ordinance work being "hogged" by member files....and yet I have sent and seen hundreds of TEMPLE file names to the temple to do....and they sit unprocessed for YEARS. I wish there was a way to get those names through the pipeline quicker.
