I remember the Colonel inspecting the latrines on our base Stuck his in a urinal scraped his fingernails along the upper edge and shoved his dried urine caked nails under our Captains nose yelling, "you call this clean" unfortunately l was the latrine orderly for that inspection I learned very quickly the importance of clean toilets!

You might enjoy the book, The Big Necessity. It is a fascinating look at toilets and bathroom habits around the world.

What a thoughtful piece! It gives new meaning to service, for how often do we avoid the small unpleasant acts of service. Sometimes I think it is the job no one else wishes to do that the Savior himself would do were he present among us. Thank you again for your gift of drawing important lessons from selfless acts of love.

What a great article Becky and we can certainly relate! Urinating in full view in public surprised us on our first visit to India years ago. Easy for the men but not the women! In one area we were in, the church facilitated the construction of multiple toilets at a school where the girls could have the privacy they needed. This definitely increased their attendance. Your stories about the basic requirements of our fellow humans and the solving of our day to day needs are so inspiring. Thank you so much!!

We who live in the United States take the availability of toilets for granted. Thank you for reminding me that the rest of the world is not as lucky. I too believe in keeping our meeting houses clean and neat for all who come to worship the Lord!

Thank you for this story. It reminds me of one of my favorite movies, a Japanese movie called "Perfect Days" about a humble man who cleans toilets in Tokyo for a living.
