Regarding national/patriotic hymns - my understanding is that there will be separate "inserts" for these on a country by country basis. Not sure of the details on how this will be done.

My problem is not with the new songs, it is with the release of them ahead of the printing of the hymnal. Most people don't understand that making "booklets" or "folders" of these hymns as they are released is very expensive -- both in cost of materials, as well as in the time spent to create the booklets or folders, clean print the hymns in each release, and then add the new pages to the folders. For our ward, it has actually cost about 300 dollars per release to print the new pages; and about 12 hours, minimum, per release just to put the new pages in the booklets/folders. So far, our ward alone has spent about a thousand dollars to create and print the current collection of 37 new hymns and place them in booklets or folders. (Our folders are used by 4 congregations; and our Stake has followed our ward in creating folders for all three of our buildings; so the cost for the Stake is triple what our ward has spent!) Right now, each of these folders is worth over five dollars -- which, I think, will definitely exceed the cost per hymnal when they are finally produced; and each new release will only add to that cost, per folder -- with the folders eventually being tossed when the new hymnals come out. I'm not sure those involved in releasing these new songs in this fashion considered such an expensive and time consuming task when they decided to release the songs in batches ahead of the printing of the hymnal! Perhaps they thought everyone would use the digital form of the hymns instead of the printed form, but it is definitely hard to read an unfamiliar song, presented with both music and lyrics, on a cell phone sized screen; so most people would probably not bother to try to sing the hymn when presented in that fashion. Just an FYI from the Music Chairman of our Ward!!

I love the new hymns and look forward to all of them. But, America, the Beautiful and the Star-Spangled Banner will not be in it? The land prophets have foretold to be the place of the Restoration, the place of the New Jerusalem? America is not just for Americans, it is for all members of the Church. Did I read this correctly? SO very sad to see this de-emphasis of the home of the Restoration! What is happening here?

I'm excited for these new hymns and songs. One of my concerns though is what the weight of the large print Hymnbook with 500 pieces of music will be. As an Organist/pianist my load of 'stuff' I have to take to church each Sunday already takes 2 bags.
