I read a book called "Roots of the Bible" by Friedrich Weinreb, a Jewish Rabbi. One of the most fascinating sections of the book goes right along with what you are saying. On pages 98-101, he points out that the Hebrew letter numerical value of "Be ye fruitful and multiply" has a value of 500. "Man" as a concept is represented by the value of 3 and "woman" is represented by a value of 4 and "child" a value of 5. However, the fullest development of man, woman and child have values of 300, 400, and 500. He notes that when man and woman reach fulfillment, the 500 is created (300 squared + 400 squared and take the square root and you get 500). Amazingly, this Rabbi writes, "The sign of the 400 in ancient Hebrew writing - not in that of the Bible - is the cross, which, indeed, was known as the sign of suffering." He mentions as well that 400 is without end and stands for servitude. It comes from "liberation as a breaking through the normal." Ex. 400 years of bondage and then liberation by Moses, has a spiritual parallel of Jesus liberating us from the normal. Back to the 500, he states: "But this 500 will come true some time. That is what the prophets tell us, but not for the 'near future', not for this world. This 500 will come true when the 300 of the male and the 400 of the female have fulfilled themselves and have integrated into a unity which produces the 'child'... It will be - if we translate the image into other planes as well - when time is over and body and soul will once more form such a unity that a new man arises." Pretty fascinating.

Yes but who spoke for Moses & who sits on the right hand ... the true role of the women is only partly revealed. The Temple gives us a peek.

The most striking thought of the entire article was: "Three males alone constitute a priesthood function that must interact with other functions. When we unravel all the layers and get down to the most basic essence of godhood, we find another three

Excellent article. Very informative. I hope everyone will click on the link to info about the "Celebration of Marriage" event in Sandy on June 26. Also, a good book from a non LDS perspective on Augustine's manipulation of the garden story is Elaine Pagel's "Adam, Eve, and the Serpent".

thank you so much for such a loving article. I LOVE this kind of history that will make the reasoning that has developed...and why it developed. yep, Let's get back to that wonderful abundant Garden of Eden.

What a lovely insight! I fear far too many Church members have been influenced by Augustine's philosphies--in fact women's subjection to men was freely taught at BYU when I was there in the 60s. It still is there in the temple film where Eve never speaks or is never spoken to outside the garden.

I liked this. The difference between "Godhead? (3 males) and "Godhood" (male-female) is a very important consideration.
