What a beautiful story. I have a brother-in-law who has actually had two open heart surgeries., The first one when he was only 40 and the second one when he was in his mid to late 60s. I wish he had had the opportunity to have read this before his surgeries. I pray that Scott will be back doing his normal things very soon. At 76 years old, my brother-in-law still works part time with a good seemingly healthy heart.

Thankyou Maurine for expressing OUR feelings on the power of gratitude so wonderfully and truthfully. And I say our, because of the experience of my husband passing away at home from a heart attack, and not on our road trip. From the moment I found him the tender mercies came, and the feelings of immense gratitude for our faith and watchcare were embedded into my heart and mind. Gratitude is indeed a protective shield for us. Again thank you for your beautiful and comforting words and prayers for Scott's recovery.

Thoughts and prayers for you and your family at this time of recovery for Scott. Thank you for the beautiful reminder of being Grateful for what we are given and for our trial. Sometimes we forget to be grateful for trials and that is what strengthens us.

In Habakkuk 3:17-18, we read: “Though the fig tree shall not blossom…yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.” (That’s a very different prayer than, “Make my fig tree blossom or else, I’m done with you.) Powerful thought. But sort of hard to remember in times of trial

I’ve been struggling with resentment over my circumstances that I just don’t seem to have the energy to handle. Two days ago I realized what I need to pray for is the strength to ENJOY them! I don’t want to rest; I want to work; so I’m praying for more strength and energy, not less responsibility. What a joyful approach it has proven to be! Quick healing, Scot.

Beautiful article Maurine. Yes! Gratitude to our Savior for all the wins. He loves us. He loves your Scot, and your whole phenomenal family. I also had full sternotomy open heart surgery. Years later, I haven't felt this good in decades. Recovery was slow-about two years for me-but worth it. I am so, so grateful I went through that experience for many reasons. I am especially glad to feel so much better, and more energetic now. Scot will get there too. Big hugs to you friend!

Thank you so much for sharing this experience with us, and for your beautiful testimony of gratitude, and also of the Savior's power to lift our burdens of crippling fear. On a note of encouragement: my father had triple bypass open heart surgery in his 60s, and lived to a ripe old age. I am so grateful to the Lord that we live in a time where such miracles are available to us.
