I assume the church will have the option to "call" leaders and not have to accept volunteers?Gay power movement is tiresome. Parents have the ultimate choice and none of my offspring will be in the scouting program if changed too much. The MIA/Primary can go back to the trail blazing thing or maybe the church have its own boys program if the scouts are a compromised organization.Too bad. The atheists are making their own evangelizing org. Signs of the times?
EMIG (and others)-Taken from the Mormon Newsroom Site-The Church posted two statements Wednesday in response to different media inquiries about the Boy Scouts of America
If this were really about "protecting children," they wouldn't allow women to be Cub Scout Den Mothers, and they wouldn't have kicked out the one who was lesbian.
Interestingly enough, Michael, the Church updated this statement shortly after it was published. The new text *removes* the word "moral" the one time it appeared:"For 100 years, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has enjoyed a strong, rewarding relationship with Boy Scouts of America as both organizations have worked to build and strengthen the moral character and leadership skills of young men."The recent announcement that BSA planned to make a policy change in its standards for membership and leadership has triggered intense debate from many segments of society. We believe BSA has acted wisely in delaying a vote on this policy issue until the implications can be more carefully evaluated."The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is carefully assessing the consequences of this policy change on the Church
When my boys were in Scouting they were always thought of as 'gay' but they weren't. The boys in their own troop never treated them that way but others within the Council did. Leaders from other Troops could be dismissive or disrespectful. Read about military sexual assaults on male military soldiers and you will see a preview of coming attractions.
What a difficult situation this (possible "gay" scout leaders) puts all of us in! I am SO glad my sons are grown (2 Eagles) but have real concern for my grandsons.
No need to speculate on the Church's position as the repeated use of the word moral in the announcement and how it is used clearly indicates it.
