“I realized this really could be any of us. There’s no difference between me and them except for where we were born.”
So said a Latter-day Saint woman in Phoenix, Arizona, after she and others in her congregation spent a day helping a nonprofit provide household items to local refugees in need.
The video below, which is part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ “Give Back” series, shows these local Latter-day Saints joining the Welcome to America Project to help a Burmese family. Every week, Welcome to America identifies several refugee families in need of household items and gathers donations from the community. On Saturdays, volunteers move and set up these items in the refugees’ homes.
This and other videos came about after the First Presidency issued letters in October 2015 and March 2016 encouraging members to help refugees. In the coming weeks, we will continue to share examples of how Latter-day Saints are easing refugees’ burdens.
