War Room, the latest from director Alex Kendrick (Fireproof, Courageous, Facing the Giants) opens today in theatres nationwide. This Christian film about the power of prayer in the lives of individuals and families, looks to continue Sherwood Pictures’ tradition of releasing inspiring, wholesome, faith-based films into the mainstream. Check out the trailer and consider supporting the film, in theaters now.
Also, a reminder that the wonderful film (really!) Once I Was a Beehive has gotten an extended run in Utah due to strong reviews and word of mouth. It’ll open in Arizona, Idaho, and elsewhere in September. Read my review and check out the film!
There are a couple of fine options for Latter-day Families at the movies this weekend. Enjoy!

Kathryn, My experience has been different. I was actually raised in an Evangelical church. But since my conversion in 1976, my contacts with Evangelicals through the years has been almost universally confrontational—on their part. "Haven't you been saved?" "Let me tell you what your church believes..." I have usually tried to divert the conversations to something benign or use a little diffusing humor. I see Latter-day Saints having very little in common with them, if anything at all. Their whole culture is worlds different. I have loved Roma Downey's marvelous work, especially the wonderful "Touched by an Angel" series. But it's worth noting how many Evangelical diatribes have been aimed at her work, calling it "not really Christian." I think that should tell us something. Cheers to you though,

I'm looking forward to seeing War Room. I've been greatly inspired by the other films from Sherwood--they've helped me become a better person and disciple of the Savior. I think if we look at their religious tradition with empathy and appreciation (because we have a lot in common!) it doesn't seem like grandstanding at all--they are sincerely trying to let their light shine and share their witness of the Lord.
