Sad to see how many will dismiss a candidate over being rude. We are losing the 1st amendment over hurt feelings. Churchill was rude, but that didn't make him a bad man. We need people to be frank and tell us the truths we so often don't want to hear. The cross choice is part of a secret combination as seen in CO. Politician be what they may, I see the trumpet more symbolic to lds believes.

Obama and Hillary are transforming our country into a socialist state where unsustainable growth in dependency is crippling our economy. Massive regulation and disregard for the rule of law and our constitution had made the past nearly eight years very scary. I prefer Cruz but if Trump wins the nomination I will vote for him against a socialist like Hillary.

The Book of Mormon speaks many times of Lamanite leaders causing their people to be "stirred up unto anger" for their own purposes (to gain more power, territory, etc.), often leading to war. Alma 2:8; 24:1; 48:3; 51:9; etc. In our day, certain public figures/pundits adopt a similar strategy, endeavoring to stir us up against some other group, person or leader for their own gain. We must be ever vigilant to recognize that tactic for what it is, call it out and resist that influence.

Yes, the GOP needs more Mormons who can teach other Republicans about the truth behind King Benjamin's speech in Mosiah 1-4, and about the truth that every time the Nephites crashed in the "pride cycle", it was because they stopped having all things in common and started having rich vs. poor. And the Democratic Party needs more Mormons, so that the other Mormons can stop thinking myths like "You can't be a good Mormon and a good Democrat/liberal/socialist." And the Green Party needs more Mormons, to remind the other Mormons that we, as a species, are doing a terrible job of stewarding the Earth that God provided for us. And in Canada, we need more Mormons in the Conservative Party, in the Liberal Party, in the New Democratic Party, and in the Green Party. And the same for all other nations, and all political parties who strive to improve their nations in non-violent ways. Despite what a late apostle may have said regarding his political beliefs (statements for which he was frequently rebuked by his colleagues in the Twelve and the First Presidency), our current Church leadership regularly reminds us "Principles compatible with the gospel are found in the platforms of all major political parties." It would be nice if all Church members agreed with this statement.

I have been lds for 41 yrs., always active. I agree with Jeannette and Eva. I also disagree with your assumptions about what we as Mormons believe. Do not speak for all Mormons. We Mormons come from many different backgrounds, areas of the country, and life experiences, which may be very different than Utah Mormons. There is no room for naivete. This is a dangerous world we live in and we need to be very vigilant. My ancestors came here, were interviewed, tested, and went through quite a process to be allowed into the U.S. and some were denied entrance. It should be no different for anyone else.

Donald Trump is not my first choice. I agree, he is too often rude. If you think he rude to women, what about sharia law. Women can't vote, even show their face in public. I voted for Cruz, but would lot rather vote for Trump than Hillary or Bernie. If they get voted in we will have a liberal Supreme Court, who believes the constitution was not inspired and out dated. Obama's policies will continue and our Debt will continue making us a weaker and unsafe Country.

L.J. ClarkMarch 25, 2016

I agree with Jeannette and Eva and will also vote for Trump if he is our nominee. I believe that either Trump or Cruz would be good choices for the survival of our country and I am disturbed at what the 'Establishment' is doing to prevent Trump from getting the nomination. They want to be able to put their 'own' candidate on the ballot instead of either Trump or Cruz, and I think that would mean another Democrat as president. And I consider that a disaster for our country. The 'Establishment' lead by the RINOS in the House and Senate, hate Trump and Cruz and will not support them if they are elected, but I think that Trump has enough clout with the media that he can make a difference. ALSO those of you who won't vote for Trump if he is nominated will be just as bad as the Born-again Christians, who wouldn't vote for Romney, and gave the White House and the country to Obama!

Great article. There are many reasons why not only the GOP, but the entire world needs more Mormons -- and particularly Mormons who actively practice their religion as centered on Christ. The gospel of Christ is the best medicine for all of the world's woes. I pray for the LDS missionaries as they work tirelessly in bringing the gospel to the world. I pray for our nation and the rest of the world which is being torn apart by evil forces. There is a scripture which states: By their fruits shall ye know them.." I don't see good fruits coming from the Democratic party. I don't see good fruits coming from many within the ranks of the Republican party either, but at least the Republican platform stands in opposition to socialism, abortion, etc. After learning more about Donald Trump, I don't see any good fruits either coming from him. He is very egotistical and proud. He is an adolescent in his approach to serious national issues. He is not a true conservative. He remains unwilling to disclose his taxes and must surely be hiding bombshells as Mitt Romney has stated. Concerning the possible Republican nominee in the upcoming general election, Donald Trump will most likely lose to Hillary Clinton as is indicated in national polls. He cannot win the Latino votes, the black votes, women's votes, and votes from many devoted conservative Republicans. I stand with Mitt Romney in not being able to cast my vote for Trump even if he is the Republican nominee. Ted Cruz has a great track record of upholding the Constitution both in the Senate as well as prior to that in litigation many times before the Supreme Court. Ted Cruz can win against Hillary because he is a master debater and he will not demean her as a woman as Trump would most likely do. If Trump is the nominee, the MSM will tear him apart. The nation will feel so sorry for Hillary having to deal with Trump's bullying, and vote for her in a landslide.

Calvin BagleyMarch 25, 2016

I failed to mention one more thing. While you are very proud of the Republican voters of Utah for aligning behind the candidate that you endorse, I would like to point out that for every two Utahns that voted for Ted Cruz 1 voted for Bernie Sanders (over 61k in total). Utahns, and presumably Utah Mormons, don't like Donald Trump, but many approve of the most socialist candidate that has run for President in our lifetime.

AMEN.....Eva

Richard NielsenMarch 25, 2016

I agree with Eva Addison. I think your website is one of the best and I love it. But with that said, I don't think you comprehend the magnitude of the Muslum/jihad problem. I don't dislike Muslims but they dislike you and me and are out to dismantle western civilization and this has to be taken seriously if this country is survive. The so-called refugee crisis is being used by the elites to create anarchy, hate, dependency and chaos which then can be used to implement policies, programs and institutions that will take away America's freedoms. Let's not be naïve to the problems facing America and those who want to transform this country from a culture of freedom to servitude. This country is being taken over by globalists who have no regard for altruism. We must not lose our self-identification as disciples of Christ by twisting the meanings of justice and compassion. A reality check now and then would serve us well.

DoraMarch 25, 2016

I can't stand his hate filled rhetoric and the way he talks about women is denigrating. Nobody had to tell me (Mitt Romney) I already knew.

William FoxMarch 25, 2016

The fact that you think that the rest of us, you know the 90% need to wake up speaks volumes about what you think of your fellow members. Trump is not a moral man. End of story. Our republic can only survive if it chooses moral leadership. I would like to think that I am also trying to protect this country from the likes of Donald Trump who seeks not to elevate but to debase this country and all who live here

vickieMarch 25, 2016

one of my sons was the secret service for TRUMP and he met his family and then seemed nice to him. the secret service take turns guarding him. with all the rioting, I was afraid for my son and others around trump. I don't want a president who causes some of the rioting. I know that so many were angry over the Obama years and they are letting off steam now and voting for trump as a result of Obama. trump said the words most of us were thinking being angry at the last 8 years. however, electing someone who lets off steam or says the things we were thinking doesn't mean we want him for a president and what turned me off was when he said a word I never say...and I think you know what that is and its vulgar. I know this a man who talks like that doesn't have the Holy Spirit with him to guide him and I don't want a man who doesn't have that guidance to run this country in such an evil world like we have. I'm afraid of Trumps immature personality and we will not know from one minute to the next what he is thinking and what he will do irregardless of what the American people want. I'm afraid he will throw us into an all out war.

Harold RustMarch 25, 2016

I believe we Mormons give credence to what we believe is the character of the person more than their promises or their denunciations. Many of Trump's supporters seem swayed by what he says he will do while assuming he will be a leader with integrity as he acts. History has shown that character is far more important than promises. Unfortunately, Trump's character rating is very low.

jfcainMarch 24, 2016

Trump is a bully and disrespectful to women and anyone who disagrees with him. He supports Planned Parenthood and has supported many Liberal politicians and their causes. That's why I didn't vote for him!

Alice RaneyMarch 24, 2016

I agree with the article. I am Mormon. I am disgusted with Obama, the currant congress, and Trump. I also am disgusted with Hillary. However, I do have short periods of anger that motivates me to do all I can to make wise decisions in my voting but not enough to make stupid decisions by allowing my emotions to control my decision making skills. Did that make sense? In other words, I research, pray, research pray. Just because Romney is Mormon many did not support him for that reason in the church. Most will look over the situation, study it out, pray about it and make up their own mind. At least that is my experience with myself and my friends who are also Mormon.

ElizabethMarch 24, 2016

I agree with Eva, Trump is just trying to keep us safe. He has never stated that he hates Muslims, and just wants to limit them from coming here unless they are fully vetted. He may not be the most eloquent speaker, but he has America's best interest at heart.

Warren PaigeMarch 24, 2016

The blatant disregard for women was enough to not cast my vote for Trump.

Jeannette HagarMarch 24, 2016

I am an active LDS. I will be voting for Donald Trump if he is the GOP nominee. None of the 6 reasons given pertain to me. The reason I will vote for him is so a Democrat will not win. Mainly Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. Fellow Mormons need to look further into his (Trumps) character. He definitely isn't close to our gospel teachings but he will fight for the survival of our country.

Eva AddisonMarch 24, 2016

I am a lifelong Mormon, very active, very interested in politics and very much is disagreement with your article assumptions. Everyone should be angry with our current president and his desires to "fundamentally change America". Donald Trump doesn't hate Muslims, he hates that people are coming into our country and trying to change it to fit their cultures. Do you even know about Sharia Law???? Muslims throughout America are trying to changeAmerican laws to allow Sharia law here!!!!! Donald Trump isn't trying to close our borders, he is trying to protect our country! Wake up!
