Seems to me the same kind of signs that preceding his coming to the Americas will be prevalent again.
Both the Book of Mormon and The Biblical Word states that Every knee shall bow and Every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord at the last day.

Greg... While I appreciate the sentiment of your comments, I wonder if Noah knowing the details of the flood are comparable to our dispensation. Christ's words in context certainly seems to indicate that the prophet and others who are obediently living according to their covenants should know according to the expediency of the work and glory of the Father.
Matthew 24:36 ¶But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Steve, my personal guess is that a Planet 9 can't exist and wont be the Grand Sign. I can't see how a planet sized comet can have an orbit described by the Planet 9 theory. I'm thinking such an elliptical orbit could only be found with small comets.
Elizabeth, I like that idea of lightening but also lightning is a common theme/symbol in ancient creation accounts and it looks like it is talking about plasma (99.9% of the universe is made of plasma) which was has only recently been discovered after Joseph's time so lightning was the best way to explain what was seen in the heavens anciently. It was probably much more violent than we see in the plasma Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) as we don't have another planet near our planet. It looks when planet size bodies come close together they interact electrically making the plasma (Van Allen Belts) glow very brightly. So his description of lightning may also be accurate but not well understood.

It is interesting of the signs of his coming but anyone who tries to claim that they know when The Second Coming is, is very arrogant. Jesus Christ even said that He did not know the day or time of the Second Coming. The signs do remind us that we need to be prepared for it. And does make us wonder how close we are getting to the Coming of Christ.

I am not highly educated but it seems to me that our leaders have told us to hurry and get all of the work done that we have assigned to us. So my money so to speak is on our leaders. What ever they say is what counts.

David Talbott has compared mythology and identified the planets as the agents of the creation and flood. Wallace Thornhill has described the plasma physics which the planets were joined with. Anthony E. Larson has studied all this and held it up to the gospel and what our Prophets (especially Joseph) have taught us using symbolism. We can learn so much more about this up coming event.

I note the graphic within the Caltech article depicts 12 "celestial bodies" (11 orbits and 1 sun)... how can that be?
I know there is scriptural reference to "12 fixed stars" but I've not seen our solar system depicted that way before.
