I thought of watching this because all my friends rant and rave...and I love the era. Gave it a try and realized it's just a big soap opera. In the 2 episodes I watched someone was murdered and someone someone else was having an affair. It wasn't a "feel good, easy to feel the spirit" show. I was sad but have moved on.

Spot on Bro Duncan. I enjoy this series v/much and appreciate your comments and good advice to each character. Its intriguing to see how the plot developes and interesting to see what reactions are evoked from each character, bustling, bumptious, bursting with pride, bumbling along with servitude..........most enjoyable.

Your list was going great, but you left off the two main characters! The heroes of this tale -- Anna and her husband Mr. Bates. Well and Tom who you mentioned makes three. May the eventual fall of the evil empire of the Dowager Witch eventually benefit and become the property of the Bates! Yeah, Maggie Smith is a wonderful actress, the writers give her character great lines -- but in this story she plays the same part as Palpatine in Star Wars.
