My husband let me in on a little secret that has lessened my interview-anxiety HUGELY. He said that "yes" is not the only acceptable answer. "I try" is acceptable too. You know, with regards to the honesty thing anyway. The other stuff, maybe not so much. =P Thanks for the giggles, and the nods of oh-yes-that-is-EXACTLY-how-it-is. You're brilliant.

Have to say how sad this story makes me. Why do we feel inadequate or guilty if we are dong our personal best, and quickly repenting? As good as we can IS good enough for Him. Why isn't it good enough for us?

I really thought I was the only one who stressed about it at this level. And I STILL feel the need to confess that I vote for Democrats most of the time. It actually gave one of my bishops pause once. I, uh, I moved out of that ward.

Oh my! How refreshing to know I am not the only one who DREADS Temple recommend interviews. Thank you so much for your humorous viewpoint and putting it all in perspective!

Had my husband and I both laughing out loud at this one. Fabuious, as always, dear friend!

I loved your article! I rarely laugh out loud while on the computer, but it really felt good to do so. I have a lot of guilt for things most people would just ignore, too! Thanks for the laugh!

Oh my goodness! I laughed until I cried! I just experienced my very first temple recommends interviews! The one with the Bishop didn't make me so nervous since I have come to know him pretty well (in our very small town) but the one with the Stake President made me feel more like your article, since I didn't know him at all! I've just been a member for one year and still learning what all this means! Right now my hubby and I are on a road trip and will be in Salt Lake City to attend a temple for the first time. So very nervously excited. Thank you for the refreshing laughs! I forget sometimes to not take myself so seriously!

Terrific article! thanks for sharing. I totally relate to you. I appreciate your honesty. All too often, I think people are scared to be honest -- afraid they will appear less than perfect, etc. But, we all have short comings and struggles and when we know we're not the only ones with these issues, it makes us feel so much better! like, phew -- I'm not the only one!

I laughed all the way through this article you wrote. I couldn't agree more. Thank you for the happy way I started the day. I think I have over a year before I have to face this same interview (thank goodness).

How delightful and right on. My anxiety level lessen each time and I can only hope it's not because I've become desensitized. I really enjoyed this brutal look.

Thank you for the commendably lighthearted view of how many of us feel when we confuse honesty with perception and preference. Not commenting on a bad haircut shows one's desire to be kind therefore valuing the unfortunate person more than the perceived unsightly do. I am grateful for the doctrine of eternal progress rather than the myth of ready-or-not perfection. Being willing to repent or serve when one would rather do otherwise is a sacrifice and brings the blessings of heaven. Keep writing. I enjoy your point of view.
