Some good insights. One understanding that's come to my heart and mind, as I've read scripture, studied other's insights and ancient customs, and as I attended the temple, is when women unveil their faces in a traditional wedding ceremony, they are "seeing" their husbands complete. The man (groom) represents Christ symbolically in the wedding of the groom (Christ) and His bride (The church). When our Savior comes again we shall "See Him" as He is and all eyes shall be unveiled and all knees shall bend and those of His church (bride) who are faithful shall be "Lifted up" to Christ their king. Veils are symbolic (no matter if it's a Catholic wedding or in a temple setting) of the veil before the eyes of the church (bride). Also, the more you study ancient Hebrew numbers and letters, especially numbers like 20, you will better understand the symbology of the temple and it's AMAZING connection to Ancient Israel. Yes the symbols are ancient and yes other organizations have corrupted those symbols and use them for their own purposes, but it does not take away from the fact that the symbols are of ancient orgins, some found in other ancient cultures, but God's meaning for them is found within ancient Hebrew writing and cultural knowledge. The Lord tells us time and time again in scripture "if you seek" THEN "Ye shall find". After attending the temple for the first time this past week since changes were made, I testify that the veil is thinning as we get closer to the Lord's second coming and the power gained (to help us withstand the evil one whose power is also increasing) from attending the temple is increasing among the faithful.

T, Alonzo Gaskill, in his books on temple symbolism and clothing says that the women wear the veil for the men, and men wear the caps for the women, because a person cannot wear both on their head at the same time. The (dozens of) books on temple symbolism will answer so many questions.

In his CES talk on February 3, 2007, entitled, "Seek Learning By Faith". Elder Bednar gives some important instruction (referenced below this paragraph) pertaining to the method I used years ago to discover the truth for myself as to why being veiled in a Temple setting is a "get to" rather than a "have to" experience. After 18 years of asking why women HAD to be veiled in the Temple, I was prompted by a wise Temple Matron to change HOW I asked that question. ACTING in faith on her suggestion (as Elder Bednar suggests in his referenced talk), I then asked that question in the following manner -- ie., "Why do women GET to be veiled in the Temple?" It was only after ACTING on her instruction (which I believe was inspired by the Lord in this situation), and changing how I asked that extremely important question (to me) in a different and positive manner, that I nearly instantly received glorious information from the Lord about why women have the PRIVILEGE of being veiled in the Temple. Here is what Elder Bednar said in his talk about the principle of action when coupled with faith: " I have observed a common characteristic among the instructors who have had the greatest influence in my life. They have helped me to seek learning by faith. They refused to give me easy answers to hard questions. In fact, they did not give me any answers at all. Rather, they pointed the way and helped me take the steps to find my own answers. I certainly did not always appreciate this approach, but experience has enabled me to understand that an answer given by another person usually is not remembered for very long, if remembered at all. But an answer we discover or obtain through the exercise of faith, typically, is retained for a lifetime. The most important learnings of life are caught—not taught. The spiritual understanding you and I have been blessed to receive, and which has been confirmed as true in our hearts, simply cannot be given to another person. The tuition of diligence and learning by faith must be paid to obtain and personally “own” such knowledge. Only in this way can what is known in the mind be transformed into what is felt in the heart. Only in this way can a person move beyond relying upon the spiritual knowledge and experience of others and claim those blessings for himself or herself. Only in this way can we be spiritually prepared for what is coming. We are to “seek learning, even by study and also by faith” (D&C 88:118)." That very wise Temple Matron did not give me the answer I was seeking, which I'm sure she had already discovered for herself in the same manner through which I received my answer, but in directing me to think about changing my ACTIONS -- which I then CHOSE to do because of my God given access to agency -- she helped me to discover my own answer -- which I have cherished ever since!!

Everything holy is separated by a veil

Just yesterday I was telling my husband that I did not understand why women veil their faces. This article explained it to me completely and in a way I can understand. Thank you so much for sharing it! Reading these words today is a tender mercy from the Lord, who knows my heart and that my question was sincere.

Good article that clearly illustrates the meaning of and scriptural references to the "veils" we might not be aware of - food for thought!
