Thank you for a good article. Did you realize that the negative feelings you mention, the fear, guilt, worry, "the nagging feeling that we should do better, be better", this is the broken heart spoken of in the scriptures! It is Christ knocking at your door saying, give me your broken heart, and I will give you peace and joy. So, will we fall on our knees and plead for his mercy and grace, or will we continue to think we can overcome our sins on our own? Forgiveness and change are available to us, not after an eternity of trying, but right now, simply if we have the faith to ask for it. How did Alma and the people of King Benjamin have their broken hearts turned to exquisite joy? They asked Christ for mercy. Alma was extremely wicked, Benjamin's people were extremely righteous, but they both had to ask for, and were granted a remission of sins. Mos 4:3, "they were filled with joy, having received a remission of their sins, and having peace of conscience, because of the exceeding faith which they had in Jesus Christ" After experiencing the same thing Alma said, everyone must be "changed from their carnal and fallen state, to a state of righteousness, being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters; 26 And thus they become new creatures; and unless they do this, they can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God." Mos 27:25 It's an event, not a process. Ask for it!
