I love this idea, but as a convert who still owns a red-letter edition of the Bible, I'm not comfortable with the color red in this version. I know this seems petty, but the color red was always the words of Jesus Christ. I definitely would purchase this if it were any other color of lettering for the JST.

The Church purchased the JST manuscript from the RLDS church. There were about 4000 changes, but about 600 included in our current scriptures. Joseph Smith Papers team is currently reviewing every word, letter, space and punctuation of the manuscript. You can purchase the Inspired Version from the RLDS (Community of Christ). It has 2 columns with King James Version on 1 side and JST on the other.

It's more conventional to put corrections after, not before strike-through text that's been changed. For those of us familiar with the standard convention it's a little jarring to read it the other way around. Also I agree that a different color for Joseph's changes would have been better to avoid confusion with the standard red-letter editions. A link to a listing site would be helpful.

Yes, where would I find the book with all of the JST changes? I eagerly await your answer so I can have this book. Thank you for your time, this article was great to read. Thank you again. Linda

I am sorry if my selection of textual colors offended anyone. It was certainly not my intent. Forgive my lack of thoughfulness. The intent of this book was to highlight the JST alterations. Red-Letter bibles are still available that highlight the Savior's words.

The Old Testament version only comes in hardback because of its length. Paperback is not available from IngramSpark due to the number of pages. There is not a digital version of the Old Testament available.

https://jstrle.com/ will take you directly to the purchase site for all variations of both the New Testament and the Old Testament. Selecting an option below the respective cover picture will direct you to IngramSpark's securing purchasing site (except for the digital version of the New Testament).

If you select either of the covers in this article it will take you to my website. From there you can select the version of the books you wish to obtain. There is a digital version of the New Testament. My website gives you 3 options to obtain the digital version. The books are sold through Ingram a worldwide distributor to book stores, libraries, and resellers. However the hard copies will be less expensive through my website: jstrle.com.

Copies of the JST manuscripts have been fully available for a number of years on the Joseph Smith Papers website of the LDS Church. In March 2024, the LDS Church purchased numerous properties and items from the Community of Christ (formerly the Reogranized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). Among those items were the orignial manuscripts of the JST. It was from those manuscripts on the LDS website that these books were created. All the changes are in these books, including most of the punctuation (barring any errors that I may have made). About 1/3 of the JST alterations were included in the LDS version of the scriptures. The selections therein were indeed painful, but necessaey due to space limitations in order to produce an LDS quad edition particularly. In fact had it not been for a miraculous creation of an extremely thin paper used in the LDS bible reditions just prior to going to print, a quad or perhaps a lot more JST entries would not have been able to be included. But that is another story.

This looks really interesting. A question is in order. It is well known that not all the JST changes were put into our current Scriptures, i.e. some left out. Multiple people have described that, and said it was painful choices. FLDS Church supposedly has the original JST manuscript. Many LDS Scholars, said based on their person inspection\comparison of the JST manuscript that the book called "Joseph Smiths "New Translation" of the Bible", printed in 1970 by Herald Publishing in Independence MO is correct and has all JST. Do these red line versions have "all" the JST or do they use the ones that are in our Scriptures which supposedly isn't everything?

Where do we find/buy these red-letter books?

Rob McGhieJune 26, 2025

Is there a digital version?

Barbara EarlJune 26, 2025

I tried to order but my phone number is required for shipping information but there is nowhere to add the phone number in the shipping section.

I could only find a hardback printing of the Old Testament JST red letter, but could find a paperback, hardback, and Kindle version of the New Testament. Is there going to be multiple versions of the Old Testament?

Converts to the Church may be very familiar with the term "Red Letter Edition" of the Bible. In the traditional Christian world, only the words of our Savior, Jesus Christ, are in red. I do. When I read the title to the article, and read further that it NOT the words of Jesus in red, but the JST clarifications, I was initially very offended. Jesus is my Savior. Joseph Smith is the Prophet of the Restoration, whom I admire and am grateful to. I think it is great to have the JST integrated into a Bible like this. It will be very helpful. I just a different color system had been deployed, including our Lord's words in red. I would have bought a copy today, if that had been the case.
