I'll never forget the Christmas story shared by then Bishop Poduska. He talked about a family that brought several gifts for Christmas, but were intercepted by his Father, who sold the gifts for alcohol. Somehow, he managed to get a cap gun, which he cherished for years after that. Just about everyone in the room was in tears, when he looked up and said something like, "Well then, now that I have destroyed the mood, let's talk about something happy."

Dr. Poduska was one of my professors. He was willing to write me a letter if recommendation when I applied to grad school, and one of his married children was a classmate. He never ever gave any indication of what his childhood had been like, so the story is surprising. What is not surprising is that he went into a field designed to help make, keep, and create healthy families. I look forward to reading this book, even if the ending is as rushed as the review states.
