So once we are immune to your list of diseases [Arthritis, Asthma, Autoimmune diseases, Cancer (several types). Colitis. Constipation. Diverticulitis. Erectile dysfunction. Gallbladder disease, Gastritis, Gout, Hypertension, Kidney disease, Multiple sclerosis, Obesity, Osteoporosis, Stroke], what can we look forward to die from?

I have read your "Discovering the Word of Wisdom" book and enjoyed it, but I think your teachings go too far. To be clear, I do not think that people who follow WFPB are incorrect, but to say that that is REALLY what the Lord wants us to do is incorrect. We must take all scriptures and the words of the prophets into account, not just D&C 89 alone. Somewhere else in D&C (45 maybe?), The Lord teaches that animals are here for us to eat, as well as other things. And Pres. Packer in a 1995 General Conference address taught us that it's okay to eat meat as well. There are other pro-animal sources as well. I heartily concur with being aware of where our animal products come from and the environmental impact of having too much meat, etc. My family rarely eats meat, and I try to buy from local sources with well-treated animals when we do, which means it's expensive, which keeps us from buying meat often. But again, to claim that WFPB is a higher form of the WoW and what the Lord really wants or prefers is incorrect.

I try and eat mostly vegan. When I eat a lot of meat I feel terrible, and anxious. My liver has problems digesting a lot of meat as well. I love to juice lots of veggies, and I love a lot of salad, avocados and tomatoes. I do have brown rice and quinoa as well. Sometimes I do crave meat, or my hair starts falling out and I know its time to up the meat a bit. But I do agree that meat should be eaten sparingly, or only in times of winter etc. Thanks for this article!!!!!

In the First Presidency Message of the October1986 Ensign, President Ezra Taft Benson said: "The condition of the physical body can affect the spirit. That’s why the Lord gave us the Word of Wisdom. He also said that... we should use moderation in all good things. In general, the more food we eat in its natural state—without additives—and the less it is refined, the healthier it will be for us." I think the information in this article harmonizes with the counsel given in the Word of Wisdom, and also with President Benson's counsel. I've benefited from following these guidelines myself. There are challenges, but feeling healthier is worth the effort.
