After a successful limited release, Faith of Angels, an independent film shot in Utah, is set to expand to over 400 theaters on September 27. The film, starring John Michael Finley (I Can Only Imagine) and Cameron Arnett (The Forge, Overcomer), garnered the highest per-screen average of any faith-based film during its limited release weekend—a notable achievement for both the indie and faith-based genres.
The film tells the 1989 headline-grabbing story of a stranger who receives mysterious promptings, leading him to find a missing boy, lost for five days in an abandoned mine. Coinciding with the 35th anniversary of the actual events, Faith of Angels delivers a tense but hope-fueled narrative with an outcome that President George H.W. Bush declared as “evidence that miracles still happen.
Writer/director Garrett Batty and Producer Daren Smith are releasing Faith of Angels independently through Purdie Distribution and began detailing the entire behind-the-scenes experience months ago, on their weekly podcast Truly Independent.  The weekly episodes draw back the curtains, offering a transparent look at the challenges and triumphs of independent film distribution.

“Making an independent film feels like a sprint.  Taking one to theaters across the country feels like a marathon.  This incredible story makes it all worth it,” says Batty, whose previous films have seen similar theatrical roll-outs.  Smith adds “To expand to this many screens after a successful limited release is a credit to the audience who are embracing this film.  We’re thrilled that theaters are jumping on board to bring it to them.”
