I read and loved the "Washington Hypothesis" and am now sharing the book with my seven children. It along with this great article have been excellent reminders that God is in the details of our lives and was certainly in the details of establishing a land of freedom to enable a country for the gospel to be restored. There is no doubt that great men and women were raised up then who loved the Lord and desired to serve him and provide freedoms in this promised land.

Having read Timothy's book, I would suggest it be placed in every Latter-day Saint's home for serious consideration. It's definitely the greatest publication on American history and the father of our country mixed with inspired prophecies found in Holy Writ. I'm on my second read.

Thank you, Maurine, for this excellent and inspiring article ! We Americans need to stay united in this cause of liberty. Righteous living and dependence on our Heavenly Father are essential to our happiness and peace of mind in these latter days.

I am 75, but years ago, in my 20's, I met the only man who studied and wrote about the childhood of Washington to see what went into the making of his character. The book, "The Making of George Washington," and General Wilber's remark to me about why he wrote the book, created my great interest and admiration of the man. He wrote the book, "because the world needs Washington again." Since then I have read The Real George Washingon, and many other books about him. I am in the middle of reading this book by Ballard. President Benson, once mentioned something about Washington that came from a set of books. The book stated that Washington was considered the greatest man born in a 1,000 year period of history. Having read so much, I know there are many fascinating stories about him. During the French and Indian War, the Indians said that he fought with him men, like an Indian. They aimed to kill him, but and were constantly unsuccessful. Years later, the head of that tribe walked a great distance to tell him of their unsuccessful attempt to kill him. The Chief said that Washington could not be killed, and that one day he would be the leader of a great nation. The Great Spirit Protected him. After I finish Tim's book, I want to read one I just found, called The Return of Washington. The world does need men like Washington again. In a vision he had in Valley Forge, he, like one of our earlier prophets, foresaw another war upon this land- yet to come. As one person pointed out, our country is full of hunters, many of whom would fight for this country. President Benson said that we may have to lose blood to retain our freedom, but that when the Savior returns, the US Flag will by flying over this land.

Cornelia, how can we best follow George Washington's example? Can we call government, military, and all citizens alike to repent of their language, their deceit, and their immorality? I believe this is what we need and to fear not "what people will do OR say."

I understand there was a fog that protected the British evacuation at Dunkirk. Too often we expect the hand of God to look different than it does. A fog, a rainstorm, flocks of birds falling from the sky to provide food for the poor. I cannot remember which BYU professor taught that we are wrong to act as if anything can happen in this world. God is in charge and He sets limits to Satan's power. We must seek that power but it is there.

Sounds much like when Mormon was given leadership over the Nephite armies at the tender age of 15 and lost several battles until he managed to stir the men to more vigor for their cause.

This combination of Promised Land histories should motivate us to do our part. George Washington led the way then and is our hero today. Now we can follow his example.

America would not have won the war without the help from France during the most important battle of the war at Yorktown, Virginia. There Washington commanded a combined force of American and French troops to defeat the British General Charles Cornwallis. An American army prevented Cornwallis’ escape from Yorktown by land while the French naval fleet prevented his escape by sea. So, Cornwallis and about 6,000 men tried to escape the American and French forces by crossing the York River in rowboats to Gloucester. The British were within only half a mile away from safety when suddenly a hurricane came in from the sea and blew all the boats back into the control of the Americans. At that time Cornwallis exclaimed, "Even God wants Washington to win!" Washington and America to win the war! The defeat at Yorktown crushed the British fighting spirit. Eighteen months later a peace treaty was signed, and Britain recognized the independence of the United States of America.
