I am so thrilled for this wonderful find! Phebe was my husband's great great grandmother. A quilt that she made is on the bed in the Wilford Woodruff Home in Nauvoo, where my husband and I served as tour guides in 2001-2.

Phebe's family eventually joined the Church. In fact, Phebe would sometimes stay with her family in Maine while Wilford Woodruff was on his missions. I think it's safe to assume that Phebe's parents returned this original letter to Phebe and Wilford Woodruff at some point.

Like others, I am interested in knowing the story behind where and how these letters were found, who has kept and preserved them throughout all of these years, how did Wilford Woodruf's own handwriting come to be found at the bottom of these letters?! How did YOU come into possession of them now? And, do you have plans to donate these letters to the church so they can be properly preserved?

How did Phebe's letter to her parents come into the possession of Wilford Woodruff and Phebe or did people typically make a copy of their correspondence to others?

What an incredible find! Phebe's humility and faith provided her family with an enduring example of the goodness and love of God, and the importance of following His will, even in the face of uncertainty. Thank you for giving us this glimpse into the thoughts and life of one of our remarkable LDS women.

What a fine, smart, sweet lady. She couldnn't have married a finer chap. I wonder if she knew her letter would some day end-up on Facebook and the Internet.
