The real "culture of fear" comes from the other side. Too many academics and others are afraid of voicing opinions supporting the church's positions lest their careers be harmed. And with good reason. My question for those within the church who bemoan Elder Gilbert's call is: "Where do you think the call came from?" If it was the only the choice of a bunch of out-of-touch old men, why do you stay in such an organization? On the other hand, if it was by inspiration from God, why are you complaining? You are either in a church you don't really believe in, or you are in opposition to apostles and prophets led by Jesus Christ.
