It is indeed sad to see religious faith waning in the US as well as in other parts of the world but just remember that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have been able to thrive despite the availability of contraception, abortion, pornography, recreational drugs, liquor, tobacco, coffee, tea, television, movies, the Internet and criticism from other faiths as well as the philosophies of men. There is a vacuum to be filled, and we have a message that resonates with those who are searching for meaning in their lives. European nations used to be very religious, but they were also constantly fighting with each other, often in the name of their apostate versions of God.

Thank you so much for this piece. I know of many Christians - LDS and otherwise - who support the philosophies and plans of those who want to impose Christian Nationalism upon this country and the world. Christ did not teach aggression. The Holy Ghost is a spirit of peace and gentleness. These teachings of Christian dominion are truly “the philosophies of me, mingled with scripture” and have no place in Christ’s church.

Could not agree more with this article. Under the current MAGA regime and belief system, there are many religious "conservatives" who are seeking to impose and establish Christianity or, at least their version of it, as the dominant belief and even legal system in this country. We are very clearly living in the era of the kingmen as described in the books of Alma, Helaman and 3rd Nephi. MAGA and the current regime are very much seeking to impose their will on the masses, engaging in ethnic cleansing and seeking dominance over this nation and other nations around us. All of which is not following Christ's teachings to love God and our neighbor.

The comments thus far dont seem to recognize most authors have a specific subject to cover rather than the entire history of societal change. In these cases, the subject matter seems to be glossed over, refuted and or denied. While the general point of the comments are valid, the reality exists for the potential of a religious takeover which should not be ignored either. The fact of even a minority engaging in efforts to control beliefs demonstrates it could grow, which is how these things happen: we don't believe they exist or are a threat until they have gained momentum and strength. Change, positive or negative, doesn't happen quickly, but slowly enough to not notice until it is indeed threatening. Our constitution can hang by a thread from either, or both, extremes.

To commenters Robert and Matt---I agree with you completely.

I found, nor do I find any such happening in the American conservative. True, there are always factions who are small and without much support who espouse more radical ideas, but they are neither a majority nor a problem. It has been the radicalization from wrong thinking leftists that has caused more harm than from conservative religions. I find the writer's premise lacking in merit. While they pay lip service to the religious founding of the Constitution, they forget that without Judeo-Christian ethics, the Constitution fails, as it has been for the past 35 years as America stepped away from religion. We need a restoration to the morals and values of Judeo-Christian ethics, and I see a call for that more than a hostile Christian takeover of government. The fact the writer called the events of Jan. 6 an insurrection tells me enough about their wrong thinking. Truth and honesty needs to be restored as well, not rhetoric and lies.

This author fails to point out that we already have a religious takeover - by the Marxist/Atheist/Darwinists, and we've been living under its oppression for some time.
