I think the reason we recognize those pictures as that of Joseph is because we have seen them as representing him. I am familiar with the death masks of the brothers and when I first saw the picture in the locket, I immediately thought of Hyrum, not Joeph.

I have felt from the beginning that the image was Joseph, and I think that good scientific methods are proving, and will continue to demonstrate, that it is, indeed, the prophet.

I just recently saw the death mask of Joseph and Hyrum and that picture doesn't look at all like his death mask to me. Maybe Hyrum?

The locket with the daguerreotype in it has a much larger metal loop on top than those in the photographs of the Smith women. It’s more accurately depicted in Emma Smith’s portrait.
Interesting article, I’m not convinced it’s Joseph Smith after reading this and the first articles about this locket. I look forward to reading the series.
