It appears there are two similar stories, both happening to adolescents named George. George Staples' story happened a few years earlier than George Harrison's. George Harrisom traveled with his parents in the Martin/Willey Handcart Comoany. George Staples was sent from England ahead of his parents.

I'm not sure where you got the name "George Staples" for the last story, but that is actually the story of my great-great grandfather, George Harrison. You might want to check your source on this one. That is definitely George Harrison's story--in fact, there is a children's book written about this.
