Our church has government permission and is closely monitored. Many Christian churches have not received that permission and are operating illegally. If our church loses permission for some reason, we will discontinue meeting.

In the mid-1980s, I was briefly in East Berlin (in Air Force uniform) and was shadowed by the East German STASI (secret police); I assume they were notified by a local living in the area of the American Consulate there. The street was deserted; I was quite uncomfortable until I made it back to where there were a lot of people (hey, crowds are crowds, even in East Berlin). What I experienced was but a tiny, tiny bit of what this good man (and many, many others) have to go through because of Communist powers. Our Saviors' heart goes out to them, and eventually, his justice will prevail.

There are LDS branches quietly functioning in most Chinese cities. I find it interesting that we do not have these persecutions. What are they doing that we are not doing? There are things here that are not seen.
