To Donna--Please, please do not feel that you have failed. There are MANY parents, including me, who have children who have left church activity. The fact that you continue to love and pray for your son is a wonderful thing! Remember that he is in Heavenly Father's hands and your son may yet come back. I am sure the Lord is pleased with your love and prayers for your son. There are prophets in the scriptures and also in our day who had children who rebelled and fell away. After all is said and done, we each much make our own choices, but don't give up, and don't blame yourself!

This feels like confirmation that I have failed my oldest child. He always was/is a very headstrong person. I tried to teach him but he's chosen another path. I pray every day that he will find his way back to Christ. But in the meantime it's very stressful on the family.

Good article. It brought to mind the time my wife and I were considering an operation on her to prevent any more children from being born into our family. After praying about it, we felt that there was one more soul we who needed to become a part of our family. After she was born, and after counseling with several people - our bishop included - we had no misgivings about ending the child births.
