The Church

Christmas time with all its festive lighting and Christ-oriented displays again will be memorable on Temple Square this year.  Choral and musical groups will present free music, carols, and songs of the season in the following venues:

Assembly Hall: Tuesdays through Sundays at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30, and 8:30 p.m.

(November 27 through December 23)

North Visitors’ Center:     Tuesdays through Sundays at 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 p.m. by various musical groups; Monday evening performances by talented Temple Square Missionaries.

(November 27 through December 26)

Church Office Building:  Mondays through Fridays at 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m.

(November 29 through December 22)

Family History Library:  Tuesdays through Saturdays either at 12:00 noon or 4:00 p.m.

(November 29 through December 23)

Joseph Smith Memorial Bldg:  Mondays through Saturdays at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, and 5:00 p.m.

(November 27 through December 24)

Performing groups include high school and collegiate student choruses, ensembles, and madrigals from Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming, as well as children’s choruses, community choirs, and other musical groups.

Adults and children of all ages are welcome at all of the above Christmas performances.  A detailed schedule of groups performing, including site location and times of performances, is available at information and hostess desks throughout Temple Square or can be found online at www.lds.org/events and then click on Temple Square Performances.

November 23 through January 1:  “Savior of the World,” a musical drama based on scriptural accounts of the birth and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, will be in the Conference Center Theater.  Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m., with Saturday matinees at 2:00 p.m.  For ticket availability, call 801-570-0080.

Saturday, November 27:  The Salt Lake Choral Artists and the Utah Premiere Brass will present a Christmas program in the Tabernacle at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, December 5:  The First Presidency Christmas Devotional in the Conference Center at 6:00 p.m. with music by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square.  Talks on Christmas themes will be presented by members of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 16, 17, and 18:  The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square Christmas Concerts with special guest David Archuleta will be presented in the Conference Center at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.  All tickets have been distributed for this event.  A stand-by line will begin at the North Gate of Temple Square for those without tickets.

Sunday, December 19:  “Music and The Spoken Word” broadcast, followed by a mini-concert by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square, will take place in the Conference Center at 9:30 a.m.  All tickets have been distributed, however a stand-by line will begin at the North Gate of Temple Square for those without tickets.

New Year’s EVE on Temple Square

Come celebrate New Year’s EVE on Temple Square with free entertainment and activities for adults, youth, and children of all ages (no EVE passes required).  Other downtown events require a pass (see www.EVEslc.com for details).
