It never ceases to amaze me that Maurine and I can travel to a place we have never been before, immerse ourselves in the lives and stories of the people, and then we come away feeling like we have just discovered another branch of our own family.

It was no exception in Haiti-in just a few short days we have come to love these people so very much.  I wanted to share with you the eyes, the smiles, the children, the old people-these are the faces of Haiti.  Please click to enlarge the photos.

A poor wayfaring man of grief hath often crossed me on my way.  Who sued so humbly for relief that I could never answer nay.

I had not power to ask his name, whereto he went, or whence he came; yet there was something in his eye that won my love; I knew not why.

Brightly beams our Father’s mercy from his lighthouse evermore, but to us he gives the keeping of the lights along the shore.

Let the lower lights be burning; send a gleam across the wave.  Some poor fainting, struggling seaman you may rescue, you may save.

Trim your feeble lamp, my brother; some poor sailor tempest-tossed, trying now to make the harbor, in the darkness may be lost.

Teach me to walk in the light of his love; teach me to pray to my Father above; teach me to know of the things that are right; teach me, teach me to walk in the light.

Come, little child, and together we’ll learn of his commandments that we may return home to his presence, to live in his sight-always, always to walk in the light.

There is an hour of peace and rest, unmarred by earthly care; ’tis when before the Lord I go and kneel in secret prayer.

May my heart be turned to pray, pray in secret day by day, that this boon to mortals giv’n may unite my soul with heav’n.

There is sunshine in my soul today, more glorious and bright than glows in any earthly sky, for Jesus is my light.

Oh there’s sunshine, blessed sunshine when the peaceful happy moments roll.  When Jesus shows his smiling face, there is sunshine in the soul.

There is gladness in my soul today, and hope and praise and love, for blessings which he gives me now, for joys “laid up” above.
