  • 4 Things to Understand about Choosing an Apostle

We saw three empty seats among the Quorum of the Twelve at Elder Richard G. Scott’s funeral this week and we assume that we will have three new apostles called at this weekend’s General Conference. This is the most vacancies The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has had in the Quorum of the Twelve since 1906.

These three new apostles will be called without much fanfare. Their names will be read and they will come up and assume these empty seats on the stand and we will go on with the conference as simply as that.

Yet these are momentous callings to know the Savior as a special witness. At Elder Scott’s funeral, a remark of his was remembered by Elder D. Todd Christofferson. “That word ‘know’ is a very important word for those 15 men who are apostles—the sacred experiences and the confirmation [of the] certainty that …

  • Renovated Church History Museum Reopens on Temple Square

Visitors to Temple Square in Salt Lake City will be able to learn about the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the newly renovated Church History Museum. The museum, which first opened its doors in 1984, reopened to the public on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, following a one-year closure. The extensive interior renovation includes new interactive exhibits.

Museum director Alan Johnson says, “Visitors can expect a great combination of art, artifacts and multimedia so that we can help tell stories in the way that people prefer to receive information today.” Johnson notes that the Church History Department has made an effort to be authentic in the way it tells the early history of the Church.

“We’re taking people right to the source material. For example, the multiple accounts of the First Vision [of Church founder Joseph Smith]—we have copies of those in the …

  • Mormons Stepping Up Aid to Refugees

LONDON — Mormons in Europe, supported by church headquarters in the United States, are stepping up their aid to refugees fleeing to Europe.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – the official name for the “Mormons” – has been providing aid to refugees in the Middle East for more than a decade, providing hundreds of thousands of blankets, clothes, emergency medical supplies, food, and other resources to refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, and Syria.03-nadia-smiling

Elder Patrick Kearon, who along with his two counselors, oversees half a million members of the Church in Europe, said in response to the crisis in Europe the Church has made an additional commitment of €4.6 million (US $5 million) to immediately help displaced families, with more to come.

“We continue to be moved, like so many others, by the stories and images of those struggling for basic necessities of food, water, and

  • My Primary colors are Black and Blue

So. You’ve been asked by the Bishop to teach the Primary class filled with 10 & 11 year old boys and girls. The mind races for excuses but fails to come up with a good enough one to state to the man so earnestly looking for someone to teach, coax to sit still, prod to sing, shush, and be with the children for two hours.

Actually, you are about to embark on one of the most amusing tasks you’ll face. These are not 10 & 11 year old children, but stand up comics without attitudes. They’re eager kids about as guileless as mankind comes.

Take one five year old. The Primary President welcomed the boys and girls and exclaimed that in looking around she could see we had no visitors to welcome today. She also noted that they couldn’t sing Happy Birthday to anyone because everyone who had a birthday …

  • Lesson 39: Ephesians – “For the Perfecting of the Saints”

    Introduction
Make no mistake that the Apostle Paul understood the gospel of Jesus Christ. He knew about the era in which we live, that is, the dispensation of the fulness of times. He understood that Jesus Christ is the head of the Church and that His Church included apostles and prophets. He understood the true nature of the atonement. He comprehended the true relationship between a man and a woman and the typology of Jesus Christ and his relationship with the Church. He understood what it means to put on the whole armor of God. All of these things are included in his letter to the Saints who were living at Ephesus at the extreme western end of Asia Minor (present day Turkey).

Dispensation of the Fullness of Times
“It is in the order of heavenly things,” the Prophet Joseph taught, “that God should always send a new dispensation into …

Last week the LDS Church officially distanced itself from author Julie Rowe’s book, A Greater Tomorrow on a page directed to institute and seminary teachers under the heading “Spurious Materials in Circulation.”

It read “Although Sister Rowe is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her book is not endorsed by the Church and should not be recommended to students or used as a resource in teaching them. The experiences she shares are her own personal experiences and do not necessarily reflect Church doctrine or they may distort Church doctrine.”

In this rousing book, which has garnered over 250 reviews on Amazon, most of them five star and …
