Dr. Geoff Nugent earned his Ph.D. in Health Psychology from Walden University, where he was recognized for outstanding scholastic achievement. His dissertation focused on adolescents and video games. He has been trained in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, autism spectrum issues, bully prevention, crisis intervention, Positive Parenting, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. He is currently receiving training in Gottman therapy, Emotionally focused therapy, and Neurofeedback.
His work experience includes the mobile crisis suicide assessment team, private practice for 12 years and family support for children with mental health disorders in non-profit agencies. Recently, Geoff was the Supervisor of Behavioral and Mental Health for the School District and is currently the director of and lead therapist in the Nugent Family Counseling Center Inc. Dr. Geoff is himself in the trenches of parenting and is a proud parent of three school age children and has a loving and most supportive wife.
Dr. Geoff is a Board Certified Professional Counselor (BCPC), California, Utah, and Arizona Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). His focus includes adolescents, individuals, and couples dealing with depression, anxiety, addiction, self-esteem, relationship and behavioral issues.
