Singer-songwriter Chris Morgan visited Mormon Channel studio to perform an original song and a piano arrangement of a Christian favorite.

The first, called “I’ve Got a Reason,” Chris wrote about both his wife and God.

“They’ve had a lot of impact in my life for the positive. They’ve gotten me to reach out to people more. When you feel loved, I guess it tends to make you turn outward and swerve other people more,” he says.

Chris has played the piano for 20 years, but in college he focused on cello performance. Today, he plays the base professionally in a band. Chris describes music as an outlet for both pain and joy he experiences. Those two emotions are embodied in the hymn he performs, “Abide with Me; ‘Tis Eventide.”

“The words are a very personal, direct plea to the Savior,” Chris explains. “But what really speaks to me is the music of it—the harmony and the melody.”

Mormon Channel Studio is a weekly video series featuring hymn arrangements and original music by LDS musicians from across the nation.
