The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has opened the doors to the new Salta Argentina Temple for the media and public to tour what will soon be the Church’s third operating temple in Argentina and the 194th dedicated house of the Lord worldwide.

For Latter-day Saints in both Salta and the province of the same name, the new temple will be a welcome addition to north Argentina, where the closest location for them to participate in temple ordinances and make sacred covenants requires a drive of some 10 hours.

The Salta Argentina Temple opened Monday, April 29, to local media representatives with a news briefing followed by a media tour of the temple. Welcoming the media were the Church’s South America South Area presidency — Elder Craig C. Christensen and his counselors, Elder Joaquin E. Costa and Elder Alan R. Walker, all General Authority Seventies — and Elder Shayne M. Bowen, another General Authority Seventy who is an assistant executive director with the Temple Department.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the artistic rendering for a temple in Canada, the location of two temples in the U.S.: the Des Moines Iowa and the Cincinnati Ohio Temples. Both houses of the Lord were announced by President Russell M. Nelson during the concluding session of general conference in April 2024.

“Understanding the spiritual privileges made possible in the temple is vital to each of us today,” President Nelson said.

An exterior Rendering has been released for the Lethbridge Alberta Temple.

This temple will be built on more than nine acres located at the corner of Whoop Up Drive West and Mauretania Road West, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Plans call for a multistory temple of approximately 45,000 square feet and an accompanying distribution center.

The Lethbridge Alberta Temple was first announced in April 2023 by Church President Russell M. Nelson. This will be the fourth house of the Lord in the province of Alberta and the 10th overall in Canada. Alberta is home to the first temple built in the country and just the sixth temple built by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Cardston Alberta Temple, which was dedicated 100 years ago in August 1923 by previous Church President Heber J. Grant, is also the first temple constructed outside the United States. The other eight temples in operation in Canada are in the cities of CalgaryEdmontonHalifaxMontrealReginaTorontoVancouver and Winnipeg.

In September 1830, the father and brother of Joseph Smith Jr., the first Prophet and President of the Church of Jesus Christ, preached in several Canadian towns close to the United States border. Between 1830 and 1850, some 2,500 Canadians joined the Church. Cardston, Alberta, was settled by Latter-day Saints in 1887. Today, Canada is home to more than 200,000 Latter-day Saints in around 490 congregations.
