After Family Search "significantly redesigned" Family Tree and record search functions to include same-sex couples and their families,". what will come after this?. If the same sex families have the right “to capture, store, and provide records and an accurate genealogy that represents past, present, and future families of the world.", in 1, 2 or 3 years after this moment, like they are families of the world, will they same-sex families, have the right for get marriage in the Temple too? The man and woman were the human creation from our Almighty God. They were created without sin. When they ate the prohibited fruit they were expulsed from the presence of our Loving Creator. He sent them to do what He did: procreate to continue His plan. Since that moment until now, that is our purpose on earth even though all of us are sinners. He loves us because we can continue His plan and He gave the gift of repentance even through Jesus Christ. How can a same sex couple fulfill the purpose of procreacion that is the Main purpose of God's Plan?

Is this really what accurate genealogy means that it represents past, present, and future families of the world? How do 2 gays create a family? A blood related family is when a man and a woman get married and create children. Isn't this what we are tracking and recording? Who is blood related to who? Or is this just past families? So present families will include gays marrying each other, that means future genealogy will include the transsexual movement where there will be an option to decide what sex the person is deciding they are not the sex they were actually born. I know the gays won't have an impact in our standards...they did not impact the Boy Scouts at all. All I can say is that which is corrupt- corrupts all it touches.

It is simply for family history purposes. If a gay couple adopt kids, the kids have to be placed with someone so that the line can continue both up and down the line. We aren't condoning gay marriage by any stretch; we are simply acknowledging there is a difference than the typical. My father was married twice and had at least two other affairs after them. All of these unions brought children into the world. I have to show them in Family Search each with the same father but each a different mother, which can look really odd if it isn't shown properly. With these document changes, it will be easily shown what the parental dynamic is. However, no child will ever be sealed to same sex parents. Nothing will be done to act as if we approve same sex marriage.

But what is the point? Why record this stuff? It sounds like, from their description, they have already redefined "family". My religious convictions don't allow me to support this.

For those who are worried about the Church’s position on marriage, note that FamilySearch’s statement says nothing about redefining marriage. Here is the full statement: “The goal of FamilySearch.org is to capture, store, and provide records and an accurate genealogy that represents past, present, and future families of the world. To support this goal, same-sex relationships, including same-sex parents and same-sex couples, will be provided in FamilySearch Family Tree. Several systems that surround Family Tree, such as tree and record searching, must be significantly redesigned to support same-sex relationships before Family Tree can release this capability. We expect to finish this work by 2019. Following this work, the FamilySearch Family Tree application can then allow same-sex information to be recorded. We appreciate your patience and desire to preserve the world’s genealogy in Family Tree.” Note that there is no mention of “marriage,” only “relationships” and “couples.” Marriage is the union of a man and a woman; nothing in this announcement says otherwise.

The church has always believed in obeying the law and the respecting everyone. This change will make it possible for me to record ALL the marriages in my family. Thank you.

Doesn't this go against Church Policy of recognizing marriage between one man and one woman?
Mary-Theresa DameronJune 14, 2018
If the Church's policy, which stands for marriage between one man and one woman, being compromised by this redesign of Family Tree?

My husband and I are temple workers. Please reassure me that temple ordinances will not become available for same sex couples.

I am not sure why this is now a news story. This has been discussed on the suggestion link of familysearch repeatedly for over two years. I asked Ron Tanner about it at RootsTech two years ago. Why the announcement now?
