Thanks for your thoughtful reply, Ron. I agree that we will be in for some wonderful and wonder-inspiring events in the latter-days...

Wonderful article! Will read it more than once. Thank you Brother Millett.

Jeff Bradshaw: "no space stations or space ships needed" From what we know about translation from the three Nephites and John, certainly the translation of a whole city would be beyond the sci-fi scenarios I brought up. Yet, I hope we do not get lost in the great figurative implications of what the scriptures testify of as literal "off the scale" level miracles. --RM

The February issue of BYU Studies will feature articles on Enoch in LDS and ancient sources. One of the articles, by David Larsen, who has just finished his doctorate under one of the world's leading authorities on pseudepigrapha and heavenly ascent, will discuss ancient accounts of whole communities ascending to heaven both literally and figuratively (i.e., in their worship). The idea that buildings and land mass of earth were transported to heaven as part of the ascent of the city of Enoch is myth that goes back to unreliable second- and thirdhand statements of Joseph Smith. Instead, what modern scripture tells us is that a people--namely Zion--was translated and taken to heaven through translation--no space stations or space ships needed!

Every Tuesday evening, as I am second follower, I hear the words and have wondered many times if Adam lived just shy of 1,000 years, or a DAY,in which he would surely die. This article is going to get printed, and I am going to read it multiple times, underline in certain colors, and try to absorb the concepts and clarifications. The only problem is...whenever I do this, I am always left with more questions than I began with...THANK YOU for this article...

@ Robert Williams - Internet sites quote similar sources for the statement attributed to Joseph Smith Interview of Homer Brown of the Forest Dale ward, Granite Stake, grandson of Benjamin Brown at www.newrevelations.net/wherearetentribes.html? or Joseph Young [Brigham

@ Robert Williams: You can find a couple of sources for that statement about the Gulf of Mexico here: https://emp.byui.edu/marrottr/Zion-Enoch-Gulf%20of%20Mex.pdf

This is the best I can do: Taken from: https://www.ankerberg.org/Articles/apologetics/AP1105W1.htm Mormonism's Three Millennial Cities By Marvin W. Cowan Wilford Woodruff said that Joseph Smith said this.

The citation of JST Genesis 14:34 does not clearly indicate (to me at least) that the city of Salem (Jerusalem) was translated. The 'it' referred to seems more likely to be referring to the city of Enoch. Other references to Salem being translated to substantiate your assertion? Thanks

Brother Millett, Loved your article. Thank you.

Robert WilliamsJanuary 28, 2014

I have a book that mentions in passing that Joseph Smith claimed that the City of Enoch was taken up from the location we now know as the Gulf of Mexico. And that is how that region got created. And one can see where Cuba probably once filled the area between Florida and Yucatan. Does anyone have a specific reference to the prophet's statement?

Thank you so much for your article Brother Millet. It is wonderful to me that "All things testify of Christ." I also love the 7th article of faith which states, "We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth." Our Father in Heaven is so gracious to all of his children in granting unto "every man" spiritual gifts, "And again , I exhort you my brethren, that ye deny not the gifts of God, for they are many; and they come from the same God. And there are different ways that these gifts are administered; but it is the same God who worketh all in all; and they are given by the manifestations of the Spirit of God unto men, to profit them....And again to another, that he may work mighty miracles;....And all these gifts come by the Spirit of Christ; and they come unto every man severally, according as he will." (Moroni 10: 8-19) It is wonderful also to believe in the words of Ammon as expressed in Alma 26:22 "Yea, he that repenteth and exerciseth faith, and bringeth forth good works, and prayeth continually without ceasing- unto such it is given to know the mysteries of God; yea, unto such it shall be given to reveal things which never have been revealed; yea, and it shall be given unto such to bring thousands of souls to repentance, even as it has been given unto us to bring these our brethren to repentance" Indeed who can shorten the arm of The Lord! Through the weak things of the world will our Heavenly Father do His great work. Thank you for reminding me of these true principles!
