Larry Barkdull has done so much for me and many others through his writings. My life was changed by The Three Pillars of Zion, and Rescuing Wayward Children has greatly comforted me and shown me the path to take to help my children. I also enjoyed his classes at BYU Campus Education Week. He will be greatly missed, but I am certain he is busily continuing his work on the other side of the veil.

So sad to lose such a great warrior. I loved all his writings. God be with you till we meet again. Comfort to the family.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear this. I too attended Brother Barkdull's classes at many Education Weeks and learned so much from him. I considered it a tender mercy when, just a few weeks ago, my daughter and I ran into him on the way to his class, and he was gracious enough to answer a few of our questions. He gave us great counsel as well as great hope. My prayers go out to his family and friends. He will be missed. Thank you, Meridian Magazine, for continuing to publish his articles. That is a wonderful tribute.

Larry's Pillars of Zion series has had a tremendous impact on me. He's a true disciple of Christ. He cold not have written what he did had he not received it through personal God given revelation. For this I'll always be grateful to him for sharing his wonderful understanding with us.
Stephen FennSeptember 8, 2016
Having read some of Larry's books while living in California, I was thrilled to have him and his lovely wife in sealing sessions at the Provo Temple. He always added a special spirit to those gatherings. Those whose temple work he participated in were surely among the first to warmly welcome him to that spirit realm.

I met Larry Barkdull in 1988 and he was willing to take a chance on an unknown arranger of simplified hymns and Primary songs. I had 3 simplified music books published by Sonos Music in 1989. The problem mentioned above, of giving his kidney to his son, caused him a lot of physical problems,he had to sell Sonos Music. But his inspiration at that time, and since has been such a blessing to me, and countless others. Love and prayers to his dear family.
Jo Ann OkelberrySeptember 8, 2016
I have been deeply touched by Larry Burkdall. His book about wayward children gave me much hope about my own children. We have been blessed by his writings, insights, and testimony.

I'm so sorry to hear this! His articles in Meridian, that were excerpts from his book, Rescuing Wayward Children, were a tremendous source of strength for my husband and I during our estrangement from our daughter. I've recommended the book to many friends. He definitely blessed my family's lives, and we never even met him.
John BurgonSeptember 8, 2016
For the past few years I have had time during my lunch hour to read the Pillars of Zion series. What a wonderful experience! I have been taught, educated and uplifted by Larry's wonderful insight into becoming a Zion person. I am grateful for his willingness to share with everyone his insights into the gospel of Jesus Christ. He will be missed but not forgotten. May the Lord continue to watch over and bless the Barkdull family.
Adriana O. de RodriguezSeptember 8, 2016
Sad with the news, joyful for having been able to enjoy his Meridian articles. His book, Rescuing Wayward Children, was a turning point in my life. I'll always be thankful to our Heavenly Father for the vital knowledge, comfort and hope I gained through his book. Till we meet again, dear brother!

Larry and his spectacular wife, Elizabeth, have been our closest friends for more than three decades. Much of what i have become has been fashioned on the forge of his friendship and love. My wife and I have spent countless hours with them in travel and games and gospel discussions. We mean to pick up an go on, but there will be a place in us for that spiritual portrait that his life etched onto the walls of our souls. We pray that the Lord will bless his wife and children and grandchildren. Thanks, Larry, for who you were and what you were. Ted

My condolences to his family. His writings have touched me over the years and have made me a better person. He will never know, but I am one of the countless of thousands that will thank him for helping me find my way deeper on the path.

I was SO shocked to read this. I just heard Bro Barkdull at BYU Education Week just a few weeks ago. He was wonderful and taught with great power and humility at the same time.
Please know Barkdull family--that he helped people you will never know about--in deeply significant ways.
There was surely a warm warm welcome for him in the Spirit World because of the great and selfless good he did here. It has been a privilege to learn from him and feel of his testimony. Prayers for his family at this time.

Condolences to the Barkdall family. Larry's legacy will live on not only in his posterity but in his writings. His writings have blessed numerous lives and will continue to do so. My prayer is that you will be blessed with comfort that only comes from the Holy Ghost.

I am heartbroken! He was one of my favorite teachers at Ed Week. I am so glad that I was part of his last class here on earth! I will miss him!
Trish MercerSeptember 8, 2016
That makes me so sad to hear of his passing. His writing influenced so much of my own. I've been writing a book series about a society which lives the law of consecration, and I used a lot of his articles as reference. Quotes of his are on my wall.
Then again, I'm sad for myself, not him. I have no doubt he's fantastically happy where he is, earning a well-deserved reward. I'm sad for selfish reasons, that he didn't get to see what I wrote, but there's no sorrow in death for someone like him. He's rejoicing.

Larry Barkdull's articles will be missed, indeed! Our prayers go out to his family.

I worked with Larry during this past Education Week, as a hostess for his afternoon classes on the Pearl of Great Price. He was a wonderful presenter, with lots of information that I frantically worked to take down in notes for further reference. I am so sad that he has passed on, but I am grateful I got to attend his classes and meet him. If you have a chance to read any of articles or books, please make the effort-it will be very worthwhile.

This is devastating news. The ONLY consolation is that you continue republishing his articles. What a great man who made huge contributions here.
