Picky, picky, Mavin. Before we can be resurrected we have to die. You just forgot one step in there.

Sure W Rojas. We God to be the literal father to our spirits. The same holds true for Christ and Satan who we would believe to be our brothers. Lucifer in the bible was called son of the morning, which we interpret as one of the first and oldest spirit children of God. He rebelled against god along with 1/3 of the host of heaven (our brothers and sisters) and they were cast out of heaven.

One additional thing which the LDS Church does not believe: the concept of "Original Sin" -- the idea that we are all personally guilty, in some mysterious inherent sense, because of what happened in the Garden of Eden.

Great article I agree. Clear and straight to the point. Just one thing I was baptised and confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints....the church which bears the name of Jesus Christ who stands at the head of it. I never call myself a Mormon and flinch every time I hear other members describe themselves at our church that way

Good Article. I am in my late 70s and believe these things literally, and have for at least the past 60 years. Over those years, through the still small voice and as witness to small and great miracles, that belief has been solidified to knowledge in many aspects.

Interesting to read these comments. People, please READ the article--every word. Several of you are misreading the intent of what the author is saying. This is why we take English in school--to be able to read and understand. Perhaps some of you missed that part.

I'm not Bruce R. so don't hold me hard and fast to any doctrinal discussions. And I'm certainly not quotable on doctrine. Need a real aerial view. Faith is my backstop.

I am LDS and in regards to what we will be doing in Heaven or more specifically in Eternity - I had a very wonderful opportunity to work with some fine Jehovah's Witnesses for 3 years. They explained to me that they did not want to be one of the 144,000 that went to Heaven since only Spirits can go there. Rather they wanted to remain on this Earth after they were resurrected, and the Earth again became a Paradise. They then explained to me that they would be able to live with their family for eternity, with a resurrected body, in Paradise. I was quite surprised to learn that in their own way they also believe in Eternal Families.

Lucifer did not come into being, ex nihilo, any more than we did. He was a child of God, as were we. But, the eternal principle of Agency was in effect in our pre-mortal life as it is on the earth. Lucifer simply chose to be prideful and rebellious and became Satan.

I am a member of the LDS church. Good article, but I also was a little unclear on your explanation of the creation and where Satan came from. As far as I know, God was in charge of all of that. Maybe you were trying to make some distinction, but I don't think it really came through.

DebbieFMay 4, 2016

So I guess you don't agree that if we make it to heaven, we get to float around playing harps for eternity?

W RojasMay 4, 2016

Can you clarify your belief of where Satan came from.

Great article, but Stephen did not see Christ "sitting at the right hand of God." "And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God." God and Christ were standing. And you say "In the end, we’re not getting out of this Earth alive so we ought to put our differences aside and relish the similarities." Yet you said that you believe that all men will be resurrected. Not on this Earth?

Good article, well thought out and it makes many good points. But I must disagree on a couple of points. On your first point I'm highly skeptical of Adam and Eve. I think they were about as real as the Easter bunny and Santa Claus. I'm also skeptical of Noah and the ark. If there was a flood it certainly wasn't a world wide flood that left only one family alive. As to the exodus( something many Jewish scholars doubt) if it did happen it certainly didn't happen the way the book of Exodus describes it. It would have involved only 15,000 people at best certainly not the hundreds of thousands the bible claims. On your last point most Christians would say they don't believe that either. Much of the imagery about heaven comes from the Middle Ages from men like Dante and Aquinas. They spoke the language of symbolism because they didn't have words sufficient to describe heaven.
