Thank you for this article. Bravo. I love the word of wisdom because it helps me soft through the latest fads in health food. Most recently, I have been plagued with a numerous amount of people who are eliminating grains like crazy in the gluten free and paleo diet trends. I wish there was more scientific research that supported consuming grains like the WOW states. I am eagerly seeking out answers on this debate regularly.

Elder Widsoe never wrote the book authored by his wife "The Widtsoes’ Book as an Example". You are obviously a vegetarian. I have a clinical nutritionist background, a degree in nutrition with biochemistry and medical education. I mostly eat vegetarian, but have found a lot to be desired in other sources of nutrients. As a Jewish convert to the LDS Church I suggest you also consider the Dietary Law of Moses. One last note--it is a fact that the Saints would kill an animal and eat it day after day before it would go putrid. It is true in the Bible also. Hence the LORD revealed what to eat: "D&C:12 Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly; D&C 89:13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine." Respectfully yours, Bill Houssian
