A wonderfully relevant article, all the comments are proof of that. You'd be surprised how many folks have had the thought "if I was ever to speak in General Conference". Many years ago in the ward we were in at the time and back in the old 3 hour meeting schedule and at a time when classes had a solo teacher which of course is a big no-one anymore, I was asked last minute to teach the 13-14 yr old SS class because the teacher had not shown up, one girl showed up, we were new in the ward and hardly new anybody, certainly did not know any of the youth, I also found out later this young lady only came to church once in a while so I'm sure she felt pretty out of place, all alone and the teacher is somebody she doesn't know. I went ahead and taught her the lesson. A week or two later one of the Young Women leaders told my wife that this young lady mentioned to her about being the only one in class and she was sure she would just get shuffled into one of the other classes and was surprised when that didn't happen and then said, that was one of the nicest things anybody had ever done for her, made her feel important. I have never forgotten that. My point with this is, God loves us all and knows us perfectly and personally but sometimes, maybe a lot of the time it's hard to feel like we matter or are important to him, that's where we as family members, ward members, neighbors, teachers, leaders, etc, come in, we need to be aware of those around us because oft times how God lets his children know they are important and important to him is through us.

The most ingenious and insightful general conference talk ever given will be the one directed to the single and childless women in the church over the age of 35, the current YSA cutoff age. Aside from the single, childless man who cries himself to sleep every night questioning his worth and value because he failed to catch a wife, there is no greater example when it comes to church culture definition of a "nobody"

I enjoyed your article and could relate to how you feel. I know you are a very accomplished woman and I enjoy reading your Meridian articles. I will look for your book. You are a leader and loved by many who read here.
SiriFebruary 6, 2026
You may feel like you don’t touch people, but I really needed to read this, I have tears because your spirit is so strong. Thank you for bringing this to my heart at this time.

Wow! Look at all these comments! Looks like you inspired people with your words! I have always felt annoyed with the idea of "important callings." Callings should NEVER be considered "promotions," or badges of righteousness. I have served in stake callings, and it always grated on my nerves when people would offer "congratulations!" Unless you are also "congratulating" the ward nursery leader, primary teachers, or every other calling, congratulations are inappropriate. Our worth or "importance" is not judged by the callings we receive. There is also a real problem with thinking that we can find personal validation, or greater "points" from God, because we have a certain calling. In fact, if we are looking for a feeling of being more important because of a calling we receive, we are guilty of pride. We serve out of love for God and others, NOT for the gratification of our own pride. I believe we are ALL important, and that we make a much greater difference in the lives of others than we think we do. We are not objective about ourselves, which can cause us to fail to recognize the good we are accomplishing. I often feel like people who attend church and never bare their testimonies vocally ARE baring them by being present week after week. Can't we FEEL the spirit all around us because we are simply with those who share our faith? Simply showing up is a big deal! AND very important.

A recent Come Follow Me lesson focused on God calling people with weaknesses to do His work. There were numerous examples of how He qualifies his children to do what He wants us to do. He promises that if we open our mouths they will be filled. I have also tried to do some of those more public things, writing, YouTubing, etc. because I want so desperately to share what I have experienced in drawing closer to the Savior, experiencing his love, peace and joy. I am consistently reminded of two things. 1. I am making a difference as I BECOME more like Him and I am influencing people that I live and work around on a day to day basis; as I open my mouth it is filled. 2. I should not give up when I fail. That is my time of learning by experience and learning to continue to work and not give up. (Do not be discouraged God is over all) That is how we show faith and then God can "add His power to our efforts" as President Nelson said.

Dear Kimberly, Thank you for your sweet encouragement to all of us. My husband and I have been in the nethermost parts of the vineyard for all 60 years of our marriage. We too can claim no leadership positions or public influence. Working in a current mission ,I was asked to prepare a sketch of my life and given examples of the three members of the mission presidency. Every one of them was daunting - long lists of temple positions, including presidencies, former missions (3 or 4), "high" stake and ward callings, successful children (we lack those too). It was as if they were saying, "Look at how much Heavenly Father has honored me." I hope to be able to write something that might remind them that those of us in the trenches, who seem to have no value, really do. In one corner where we work with only 30 others, another missionary said, "I would rather be here doing it than sitting in class talking about it." So true. Perhaps no one else notices and there is no worship or admiration, but Heavenly Father knows and cares. My favorite scene from To Kill a Mockingbird involves Atticus sitting with his brother in the parlor, knowing that Scout is hiding and listening from the stairs. The brother asks (after one of Scout's antics), "What are you going to do about her?" Atticus answers, "Scout knows that I know she is trying." I believe with all my heart that He knows we are trying, even if no one else ever does. Thank you for your comfort.

I think the number of comments says it all. Now that I'm older I feel so insignificant and struggle with feeling valued as my ability to serve in the church is quite limited as I am a tired caregiver. Too much of my life has been spent pursuing worth in our church society. If we don't seek for worth in the world, sometimes we seek it in our wards and stakes. However, it might have be a false distraction. I really wonder if we can ever be a Zion people if we're always name dropping and trying to link to this or that important person in the church; or if we've had 'grand' important spiritual experiences others seemed to have experienced etc. etc. Zion might just be made up of people aren't trying to be somebody special or who don't really think much of themselves most of the time, but rather focus outwardly. Do we really believe that it's about 'the one'? We felt inspired to start a youtube channel with inspirational music and have very few views, but I had the thought if only one person is touched and closer to Christ through it, it was worth it. Thank you for your honest article, it's refreshing.
GusleyFebruary 4, 2026
I agree. I generally feel so insignificant. But as I taught a recent lesson to my students about Enoch, I wondered about all the people we don't read about. Enoch was called to be the prophet, but there must have been people within the city who became leaders in their own way to help create unity and build the City of Zion. Those people are not named - perhaps a father, mother, sibling, extended family member - but each helped to build Zion. My name will never be in lights, in scripture, or even in many people's memories, but I am doing my best, and I trust that the Lord is grateful for my efforts, as well.

Thank you sister Kimberly White. In many ways, you told my story. I'm grateful to share that today I know that in spite of me, He has placed in places and line of work where I can have the opportunity to be a light, to reflect The Light, the Savior that I love. My patriarchal blessing tells me that I would have the opportunity to be an influence to those that come within the bounds and in the circle of my acquaintance. Large or small this circle can be, in one way or another, in the Church or at work, I'm blessed to know that I can be an influence for good. We can all be, if we so choose. Some hours ago I wrote in my journal the answer to the question "What encouraging words would my Heavenly Father and my Savior tell me now as I kneel in prayer? And I wrote: "Look at you, how far you have come! Good for you, good for you. I knew you would because, in your heart, you have always loved me and chosen me. I AM with you forever. I have always loved you and been aware of you" . My heart and tears swelled up and I felt Him near. What a tender mercy! And He does it for each of us, as we seek Him.
Esther SmithFebruary 3, 2026
I follow you. I will read anything you write. You are a gifted, insightful disciple.
T.L. McRaeFebruary 3, 2026
Your words struck a cord with me…someone who feels invisible. We must all know that we are not invisible to God even though, we often feel that way. Your influence goes far beyond a calling in the Church. Just think of that…far beyond, and one day you will see how far. You write well, and I am sure have touched many hearts. Just look at all the comments. God definitely is aware of you and loves you.
Richard GardnerFebruary 3, 2026
Thank you!
NatFebruary 3, 2026
Excellent. Thank you for this touching, honest piece.
BarbFebruary 2, 2026
That was a beautiful article. You put us where we all belong.....together!
JeffFebruary 2, 2026
Thank you for writing a personal and important message to the rest of us nobodies.
David MalpasFebruary 2, 2026
Very well written, thanks. I think most of us see something of ourselves in this thoughtful piece. I also think you might underestimate the actual quiet influence you may have on others. I have found that just by living the gospel as best you can (flaws and warts included) people notice. And are quietly, and secretly, influenced. Keep it up. Love the article.
Linnea HoyosFebruary 2, 2026
Kimberly, I agree with you on your main point. Everyone is important to God. After reading your bio though, I have to disagree with your other point. You are somebody important! I've never written a book. I don't have a degree, let alone one in philosophy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the wonderful exchange you had with your Father in Heaven. He cares about each of us no matter how unimportant we feel we are in the scheme of things.
David BallifFebruary 2, 2026
Kimberly, Thank you for this beautiful article. You matter to me!
Margaret BourneFebruary 2, 2026
You are so right my good sister. This world and this Church is full of 'nobodies' as you put it. And I am another one. But we are not nobodies because the King of All Creation loves us. And if He is a King, then we must be - have to be - Princesses. And Princesses are not nobodies. They - we - too, are Royal in the most noble sense of the word. Just as He is. And we have infinite possibilities just as He does. Now let that soak in for a minute and then truly appreciate who you really are..
LoraFebruary 2, 2026
Very insightful. You may have already tried Toastmasters as a way to hone your public speaking skills, but it would help you to have a wider audience. The Church is a relatively small field. Just a thought. And for anyone reading this who thinks that Toastmasters is for "professional speakers", no, it's for people who FEAR public speaking. It makes bad speakers good, and good speakers better.
Kandace PrisbreyFebruary 2, 2026
Beautifully said! You have stated a tender truth that we often forget. Thank you!
Leonard BoydellFebruary 2, 2026
Thank you for your article. I think we all have a part in the gospel, big cog or little cog, we are helping to keep things running and progressing. I have been blessed to have many front line callings, up to stake president, but I didn't necessarily feel important because of them, or even up to the job, but I did try to do my best in spite of what I saw as my limited potential or capabilities. I just hoped that somewhere along the way I touched someone's life for good, just as I am sure you do, in your own way, on a regular basis.
Boanerges RubalcavaFebruary 2, 2026
Enoch was important for Heavenly Father and he was translated, but all the city of Zion was translated, therefore all of them were important. They were translated because of Enoch, and Enoch was translated because of them. He knows you, He loves you, and He cares for you and you and all His children are important for Him and that's the reason He has helpers for YOU.
OldFacilitiesManFebruary 2, 2026
Well I have been waiting for another great article from you. And I am very grateful for this thoughtful and honest contribution. You have a talent for saying what needs to be said. Thanks for sharing this personal experience. I think that “they “ call it being vulnerable. It’s very hard to do thanks for sharing.
Taylor StonelyFebruary 2, 2026
What a great article! What you said mattered to me because I often feel the same way. It’s nice to be reminded of this, so thank you!
Steve DoneganFebruary 2, 2026
I could have written this. I don’t keep a journal as it would be filled with this message. Here’s what I’ve learned: those influential people don’t have time for our neighborhood, they don’t have time for our family, they don’t have time for me. To paraphrase a sign we gave my father: God couldn’t be everywhere, so He created [you]. God can be everywhere, but He loves us when we reach out. Continue to reach out. You’re touching lives others can’t/won’t. You’ve touched mine, and I’m very grateful.
LaurieFebruary 2, 2026
Thank you for this article. I have been living with the same unimportant feeling for many years and have had very few leadership callings that usually lasted for a few months. Then I was released because I failed miserably at those too. Your article touched my heart to know that others feel th same way but knowing all of us are important to God, even when we fail, makes me realize that God is the only One whose opinion matters. And He loves us in spite of our imperfections.
DonaldFebruary 2, 2026
Dear Kimberly, far as I can look at, your are a genuine influencer worldwide known within the spreading of the Meridian Magazine... I really appreciate the way you express your thoughts in so many of your publications that we can refer under your name... One of your nobodies fans. Donald (Montréal French Quebec)♂️
Lana JohnsonFebruary 2, 2026
I so so so relate to this article! I imagined being a stake relief society president I even thought I had "a prompting" that I would be called! It took "all of 5 seconds", as the saying goes to realize that I was a nobody and would NEVER even be considered let alone be called.. I'm like you never a president but in presidencies...however it's been 7 years since I've had a "formal" calling. The Church doesn't want or need me but my Savior does! There hasn't been a day go by that I haven't done some kind of "president" like service! That's my calling to be anxiously engaged in the Plan of Salvation!!!! I love my "calling " from the Lord- to do what He wants done and to become as He is. I love that my commission is between the Lord and me. He has never once failed me in serving Him... I love the Herbew word Hineni- Here am I willing and available to serve!♥️ that's me!! God is good and God is Love ❤️
ClaireFebruary 2, 2026
This is beautiful! I really needed this today! Thank you for reminding us that each of us is important to God… even me.

Leilani CookFebruary 2, 2026
Thank you for this. I'm crying to know that I am important to God, in the better sense of the word-worthy of His attention. You shared a piece of your heart with us. You are wonderful.
RaLee HallFebruary 2, 2026
Kimberly White, I know you through Meridian Magazine. I recognize your face.
Rochelle HaleFebruary 2, 2026
Thank you for your words. I wish more new members and others would catch the vision of the importance of callings and how much the Lord needs us to help build his Kingdom. Nothing is too small, from the greeter to the preparer of the Sacrament meeting bulletin. However, I have been released from callings and felt the sting, wondering if I wasn't good enough or if so-and-so leader didn't like me. I currently hold the same calling in both my ward and stake. Our high counselor calls it "non-essential." Nevertheless, I do my best to interact with ward and stake leaders to fulfill my responsibilities. I strive to do my best, as I believe the callings came from the Lord, and to put behind me any thoughts of discouragement or that my service isn't of value to Him.
AftonFebruary 2, 2026
Thank you for this. What a wonderful message that I needed to hear. I think we all need to hear the message that God loves us very personally.
AliceFebruary 2, 2026
Right on sister! I feel the same way.
Rochelle HaleFebruary 2, 2026
Thank you for your words. I wish more people would catch the vision of callings and serving, even if they aren't called, or even if they are asked to be a greeter or building-cleaner. This is something that all of our new members need. The Lord needs all of us and our talents. That being said, our feelings often come into play. Why can't I be called to...? Didn't I do a good job? Was I released because.... didn't like me? I currently hold the same calling in both my ward and stake. Last week at a meeting, our overseeing High Counselor told me (and others who serve in the same capacity in their wards) that my calling is non-essential. I take my calling seriously, and I do my best to engage with others in my ward to accomplish the things I've been called to do. His remark was well-intended, but I still felt that my service was a little behind-the-scenes and not too important. Nevertheless, I strongly believe that my call came through inspiration, and I will continue to do my best to serve the Lord.
K CFebruary 2, 2026
Bless you for saying out loud what most of us think and feel. So glad you had that witness and shared.
CaryFebruary 2, 2026
Thank you, Kimberly. You get it. Thank you for saying it.

Some of the best people I know are, or were, “nobodies”. Like my friend Colette, who died from cancer in her early 60s. Before she died, she went to the Portland, Oregon Temple to release the hundreds of family names she wouldn’t get to take through. My husband knew and loved her and her first husband’s children; my first husband and I and our children knew and loved her and her last husband and their children. When my oldest daughter died from breast cancer at 41, despite her having left the Church at 18 I felt the need to ask my Home Teachers to give her a blessing while she was in her final coma. She couldn’t object and I needed the peace of trying everything I knew. They did not say she would be healed but that she would heal. Dozens of friends have been impacted by her like and death, including the ones who passed on messages she sent them for me. “Now I understand” was my favorite. Just this weekend her stepson was in ICU, struggling to regain brain function after an error with his insulin caused his blood sugar to drop to 20. When his mother asked if she was there, the brainwave monitor went crazy! We all have our callings.
DORAFebruary 2, 2026
Be comforted. You matter. You are read. We all are beloved sons and daughters and Heavenly Father has a mission for each of us. Trust Him until the end. Dream big and then do all in your power to make that dream come true. And the Lord will do the rest.
CaraFebruary 2, 2026
Thanks so much for sharing a very personal and inspiring experience that is real
Kathi EatonFebruary 2, 2026
Thank you, Kimberly… Your article touched me more than anything I’ve read in quite awhile. It brought me to tears. How wonderful to know that we are ALL truly important to the most important being in the universe our Heavenly Father!
MimiFebruary 2, 2026
Spirit-filled and confirming. Thank you, Madam important, "nobody".
Ann JFebruary 2, 2026
This is such an imperfect way of saying something so perfect that we all need to hear, know and feel. Thank you for sharing so many of my thoughts and helping me to remember, even if it is just for today, that I am important to him.
Trudy NaylorFebruary 2, 2026
Beautiful. Thank you.
Jan RasmussenFebruary 2, 2026
That was a wonderful article and thank you for writing it. Now that you have said those things out loud you should probably prepare yourself for some leadership positions. I have found the Lord calls those who are willing to serve and then teaches them how. Certainly it is not because they are better or more qualified. I will be looking for more of your articles in the future!
LindaFebruary 2, 2026
Welcome to the world of the ‘ninety and nine’. We all feel invisible, and yet we are not. Our reach doesn’t need to be worldwide. In fact, that might truly be to onerous. LOCALLY is how we change the world. Failure is an unworthy word. The right motive at the wrong time might just be the wrong motive….right now. A single woman with no children, in a church of families, is not a failure for not accomplishing that VITAL CALLING. GOD IS IN THE DETAILS of our lives. ‘There is a time and purpose to everything. Breathe and enjoy the joy, the grind and the lessons. I believe we are entering a time of MUCH MORE LEARNING and wrestle. We all will need to lean harder on each other….personally, not globally.
Mark W MinerFebruary 2, 2026
Well- and humbly-written, Kimberly--thanks so much for sharing!
Ami BartholomewFebruary 2, 2026
I read your article. and I love your insight. I think there are many of us who feel like you do, that we are insignificant and unimportant. Thank you for the reminder that we do matter. And that we matter to the most important and influential being in existence. That's not a small thing!
PaulineFebruary 2, 2026
I can relate. Thank you for your insightful message. I believe it’s valuable!
ClaireFebruary 2, 2026
Such a blessing to know!
LindaFebruary 2, 2026
What a fabulous article!!! You have expressed the sentiments of sooooo many in your heartfelt thoughts. THANK YOU!
AshleyFebruary 2, 2026
This was a great article. Thank you.
ChristinaFebruary 2, 2026
This is beautiful. Thank you, Kimberly White. The somebody who just brought tears to my eyes.
AnnFebruary 2, 2026
I’m sitting here in tears after reading this article. I just finished my morning prayer with a feeling of such discouragement that I felt like I couldn’t keep going, though I don’t even know what that would look like. My story is similar to yours, but I struggle with depression and now some memory issues. Everything is hard and I find little joy in my life. Your article touched me and helped me remember that though this life is hard Heavenly Father and Jesus love me too, and I am important to them. Please know that your influence on just me means you have influence, even if it’s only one person at a time. You mean more than you recognize to more people than you know.
Sally MaddocksFebruary 2, 2026
I think everyone in the church feels this at times. This was a great article to remind me that I am loved and important to God
L. ReyesFebruary 2, 2026
Beautifully said. I know there are times I feel like an utter failure. But I am not a failure in God’s eyes. Romans 8:1 reminds me that as long as I am walking with the spirit, God does not condemn me. Just keep heading in the right direction.
MaryFebruary 2, 2026
You are important to me also! I see and feel such a similarity to you, and it was an absolute delight to read your article. It was the best testimony I could ever had listened to. Thank you! I’m pretty well up there in age, and still keep going and keep trying even though I have not been who I thought I would be. I’m so grateful I read your article! It saved me from more heartache.
JimFebruary 2, 2026
Thank you so much for this wonderful insight. I think all of us at times wonder if what we are doing is acceptable to Him.
SaraFebruary 2, 2026
I love this! And, of course, you never know what influence you have, for instance, here on this platform being willing to share your thoughts. I am finding that having those insightful thoughts and organizing them and writing them out is important to my spiritual development whether anyone else ever benefits. It strengthens my love of God and connection to him, my gospel understanding, and my knowledge of His love for me. Isn’t it beautiful that he speaks to each of us both for our benefit and our ability to share his His love?
Edson LopesFebruary 2, 2026
Heart-warming and motivating. Humbling too. Thanks.
TinaFebruary 2, 2026
Thank you for reminding me to listen to God's voice and not the discouraging thoughts of the adversary. I think we all desire to make a difference in the world and we are bombarded with the idea that that only happens on large platforms but the scriptures remind us that by small and simple means are great things brought to pass.
MarkFebruary 2, 2026
Thanks for this article.I sometimes wonder how important I am in the Church. In a small ward, I am hardly ever asked to give a public prayer and have been in my calling for over 4 years. It was great to read this article and knowthat I AM important!
Cornelius PetersonFebruary 2, 2026
I would like to read "If I ever gave a talk in General Conference, I would say…” and started working out what was, I was pretty sure, the most genius and insightful talk of this dispensation." Thank you for inspiring those invisible among us.
