How is a librarian supposed to know the morals and standards of a community? This seems like a heavy responsibility for someone to sort out. What are the moral standards of a community like Las Vegas? I lived there for 30 years and can tell you there are pockets of all kinds of thoughts and standards. What are the "Christian community" standards in the Deep South? From what I understand from my family there, it does NOT include the Book of Mormon and surely does include a lot of anti-Morman literature, I think librarians' training is more than adequate. I was a teacher in Las Vegas for decades and used the public library extensively each week to shore up my classroom library. I found the librarians well-trained and very helpful. The school libraries are limited by budget and space and often only have one copy or no copies of books that will enhance reader understanding. I was always grateful for the public library.

We are approaching the point where printed books will become irrelevant. Like the fax, phone books, magazines, letters from home, cursive writing. All these things are being abandoned by users of higher technology. This controversy will soon be seen as quaint as the big black Ma Bell telephone we used to rent from the phone company.

The most grievous example of this I have seen was a centerpiece LGBTQ book display smack in the middle of the children's section in a strongly Christian community. I checked again sometime later and the display was gone. I'm thankful for those bold enough to speak up. And thus also thankful for this article and the reminder that these services come out of our taxpayer pockets. Literature is as much a part of history as anything else. But degradation, de-humanizing and promoting evil should not be something anyone should be proud of or promote, especially in an environment heavily utlized by children, families and teens. Thank you for this article!

Every library I know has limited funding, and as a retired school librarian I could choose what books to purchase with my limited funds. With careful research, books were purchased that were popular with students without bad language or morality issues. Parents are free to buy whatever books they want for their children. My daughter is now a school librarian and she does the same. She has no budget from the school and earns all her money for books through her twice a year book fair.

I have had several very personal experiences with that. Thank you for putting it into words. I would say that that is another thing that Satan is working to pervert. Some librarians are so worried about being “a book banner” that they don’t care about what content they are providing. I have also noticed this higher plane mental belief in different ways than you mentioned. Some librarians that I have come across treat patrons as if people were secondary and possibly in the way of their real job.

We have to start standing up collectively against this ideology. We did that on November 5 and that opened the door for us to keep standing up and rid the country of this evil agenda. Unfortunately, some are still sleeping.
