Interestingly, during the first Gulf War, when we were living in Israel, the code word for incoming missiles was, in Hebrew, "fiery, flying serpents," and we heard the quote from Isaiah 14:29 often, with the cockatrice used to typify Saddam Hussein--"Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpentâs root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent."
