Really great story! I had a similar thing happen to me when I was coaching YM basketball many years ago. While playing the championship game I was informed by Stake leaders that the other team was playing with an ineligable player & that the game was ours because they had to forfeit, if that was our choice. I talked to the team at the half, explained the situation, & told them that even though they knew what I thought they should do (without ever telling them, that the decision was up to them. They elected to play the game, stating that the other team didn't know that they were doing anything wrong, & if they won, they wanted to do it the right way (we were losing at the half). Well, we ended up losing the championship game. Instead, we gained the hearts & respect of the whole stake. Those YM were awarded the sportsmanship trophy, but better than that, the YM from the Eureka (CA) 2nd ward walked away with the knowledge that they did what was right!
