Seth, thanks for the comment and reference to Gospel Principles--one of the best and most reliable sources, ever! I have a chapter devoted to "why" we obey and you hit the nail on the head--the love of God.

Great article and profound thoughts! God’s timetable is divine and perfect - we just need to be willing to have faith that the right things will happen in His timing.

Great article. While we can’t forget the Lord loves effort, we also need to remember that our efforts don’t work in the “cosmic vending machine” way. It’s no wonder Gospel Principles proposes the obedience motivation hierarchy as 3- Fear of Punishment 2- Want of Blessings 1-Love of God. Often external punishment and blessings come far after the effort has been given which might demotivate the obeyer. But internal love of god is a source that doesn’t go out nor need immediate results.

Is this the Roger Connors who was Stake President of Murrieta? I love this explanation of divine compensation! I also love to see the many patterns in the scriptures of God's dealings with his children. Thank you for your article.
