My husband was on a co-ed soccer team one year. A woman was accidently kicked by one of the men on the opposing team. I was on the other side of the field and heard her leg bone break that far away. It was a terrible incident for both teams to deal with.

An outstanding interview and a thoughtful and thorough statement. By comparison, various other statements, news reports, and published opinions appear incomplete and shallow. A very valuable contrast.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this interview / article. The media has not been very forthcoming in providing all views concerning this issue and have fueled even more rancor and malevolence by not reporting the full story. Thank you to Rep. Birkeland for her dedication to doing what is right and thanks to the author for conducting the interview in a skillful way that covers every issue.

I couldn't reply better than Barry Hansen who already expressed my thoughts so well. Thanks to all AND Meridian for publishing this.

My heart goes out to Rep. Birkeland and her family. Thank you for setting such an example of standing for truth despite persecution. Thank you!

Thank you to the author for providing the details and background behind this legislation. And thank you to Rep. Birkeland for her careful, thoughtful research and courageous efforts over two years to stand up for Utah’s girls while still respecting the rights of transgender athletes to be involved in activities in a way that doesn’t harm girls.
