Met you years ago when you were at Auburn and you spoke at a conference in Bham. I am also LDS and got to eat lunch with you at a nearby BBQ place with our group. You have always been an inspiration to me. We have thru cancer with one of our daughters who has had breast cancer twice and is not yet 30. I so wished it were me instead. But the gospel gets us thru it. Unfortunately, she is not a participating member at the moment and it made her struggle harder. I know you will keep the faith and it will keep you! Many Blessings and love and prayers. M. Stevens

Dear Brother Goddard: I search every Meridian Mag. for your articles, then I print them and save them to be read again and again. Thank you for blessing my life. You and your family will be in my prayers.

I find it no coincidence that I found your news this night. I am speaking in Sac. mtg. on Sunday and am sharing Elder Bednar's CES Devotional talk of 3/13 that spoke of Elder Maxwell's cancer. This talk profoundly impressed me about the possibility of "shrinking" whether we have a medical diagnosis or not. Having "the faith NOT to be healed" is a concept that I had never considered. Now, I will borrow from your choice comments as well. Thank you for your life of service, humility and sharing of knowledge. I look forward to your articles and will include you in my prayers and thank my Father in Heaven for His blessings upon you and your family.

Dr. Wally, I am so grateful that you have shared these thoughts with us. It is the testimony of affirmative choices, with a firm commitment to our relationships with God and with one another that really provides us with purpose. I am so thankful that those who have learned lessons that I am still learning are willing to share so that I may know that I am not alone. Thank you for being a true friend and brother.

JanetJune 19, 2013

Brother Goddard, I am sorry to hear of your illness, but certainly appreciate your sharing your insights and inspiring way of dealing with this difficult challenge. You have no idea how much your articles have influenced and inspired me over the last few years. I hope there are many more to come! Thank you and may God bless you.

Dearest Brother Goddard, We have had no idea you were ill all this time. The news stunned us as it must so very many people you touch through your writing and seminars. We were truly blessed to have met you and your sweet wife and son Andy and his family in Midway after one of your seminars a couple of years ago. We have tried to correspond since but we knew they were getting ready to move. A delightful afternoon of spiritual discussions, a shared love of the gospel and of history, prayer, the joy of a new baby blessing, family and food followed our visit to the gallery to see a painting done of Nancy's ancestor. We have talked about the incredible feeling of love we felt on such short acquaintance and have tried to open our own lives to others as lovingly and freely as you all did to us. Once again you are an example and inspiration to us all. This article was wonderful as are all your articles and books. We thank you for it. I wish we could convey our love and gratitude personally. Love to you, Nancy and family. You will be in our prayers. Blessings.

Brother Goddard I am so sorry to hear that you are sick. Your words have been an inspiration to me over the years. Thank you.

Kathleen FulmerJune 19, 2013

Thank you for the reminder of 'the family business'. Actually it doesn't matter which side of the veil we find ourselves as both keep us engaged with the family and certainly on the Lord's errand.

KathrynJune 19, 2013

Thank-you for sharing your life and the knowledge and wisdom you have gained from it. I feel blessed every time I read what you have written. May God continue to bless you as you learn and grow.

Bro. Goddard: Thank you for sharing your journey and lessons learned along your path of a cancer diagnosis. Sixteen years since my first diagnosis, and several years of holding up the short end of the odds so that others could be survivors long before I became one, taught many things, including: 1. All these things are for our good; 2. All these thing shall give us experience; 3. I am not yet as Job; 4. To endure, endure all things, endure all things well, endure all things well to the end; 5. Service is the antidote to avoiding narcissism; 6. Through the Atonement all the ills, injustices, wrongs, disappointments, failures, side effects and sins of mortality can be overcome; Never say, "It doesn't have anything to do with me." 7. Death is not an option, but a side effect. May your journey continue to be a joint pathway that you travel with your spouse through think and thin, darkness and light, the good and the bad and the worse of the worse.

On June 21, I will celebrate the first anniversary of my Whipple surgery for pancreatic cancer. God has blessed me with the wonderful gift of healing. My doctors find no cancer now, but PC is notorious for coming back. Like you, I know I'm in God's hands and He will chart my course. I have felt His love, comfort and support. I share your joy in being useful in the Kingdom. I am grateful I can worship in the temple. I am attacking family history with a renewed determination. However many years I have left, I want them to be meaningful.

Robert CowartJune 16, 2013

Brother Goddard I was saddened to hear of your experiences with cancer. I have truly enjoyed many of your published works. I have lived for 73 years on this planet and have been blessed to have had some powerful learning experiences especially with this body I have been given. I have lost too many friends needlessly to be quiet anymore. I have worked since age 35 in a medical environment and have witnessed and learned many things. Too many to go into at this time. But I would like to refer you to two medical figures in history who really need to be more recognized. On is the Scottish embryologist, DoctorJohn Beard. The other is the 1931 Nobel laureate Doctor Otto Warburg who discovered that cancer is an anaerobic organism. Simply stated that means that cancer cannot survive a rich Oxygen environment. I hope you will not be offended by what I have said but knowing what I have learned and personally experienced I cannot be quiet about it. Please research these two important Medical personalities. May God continue to bless you . Bob Cowart

Br. Goddard, I have loved your articles, books, and classes at Education week for many years. Last summer I had the opportunity to attend a fireside you presented in Nibley and it was a wonderful experience for me. The messages you have presented have stretched me and encouraged me to reach for a higher level in my parenting and marriage. I thank you for your thoughtful teaching over these years, as well as for your amazing example at this time.

MillieJune 15, 2013

This is a very insightful and inspiring article as your previous ones have been. Thank you. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Regina FaresinJune 15, 2013

Thank you for sharing the struggle and not just the incurable optimism part. I sometimes think that it takes something drastic, extreme to be able to separate our spirit and body... I volunteer in our hospice for those dying of cancer. Your account has given me more insight into their situation and more compassion for those going through it. You reminded me, that I just heard a talk from Elder Maxwell on the Mormon Channel the other day... With all my heart, I pray for you that God's will be done and you be comforted by that knowledge and the companionship of the Holy Ghost. "Be Still My Soul" Baci e abbracci from Regina in Italy

Wally, I have been following your articles for years and now I find you have health problems. I wish you the best. I particularly enjoyed your recent article on anger. I quote your material in some of my High Council talks. Gerry and I married 18 years ago after moving from Vernal. We now live on the Oregon coast. I truly enjoyed living in the Goddard/Curry house. Please know that you are in our prayers. Duane Tucker

It would be nice to know what kind of cancer you are dealing with. Is this something that could have been found earlier with certain checks.

I will never forget visiting Nauvoo in 2005 and attending church there one Sunday. The lesson was on forgiveness and I had recently read and been touched and impressed with your article, "The Great Presumption". I quoted "Bro. Goddard" to the class and was so surprised when your son came up to me afterward and asked if I was referring to Wallace Goddard. When I confirmed that I was, he asked if I would like to meet you. You were also visiting with your family and were most gracious in visiting for a moment with me. I still have and treasure the collection of your articles you sent me. We send our prayers for you and your family.

Alysia HumphriesJune 14, 2013

Thank you for all you have shared in your articles and your example. You are a blessing to me and many others you haven't met. May you be blessed.

Dear Brother Goddard. Roslyn's comment could have been written by me word for word. Your articles were ones I would look for and always read. Like Roslyn, I thank Heavenly Father for my brothers and sisters who have developed their testimonies and talents so as to share them with others/me and lift us. I am truly grateful.

Peggy StallingsJune 14, 2013

Thank your for being a beacon of light and hope to all of us who have been blessed by your writings and testimony for years. We pray for you and your family as you continue your journey.

Over last 3 years our family has also had trials that have tested our resolve, our faith and our commitment to each other. I can't say that I would ever ask for such circumstances again but I can say with a heart very full of gratitude that I am so grateful for all that we have learned. Many days when we would get up in the morning, we would tell Heavenly Father that we desired to have faith in His plan and in His desire to bless us and also in His timing. We asked that he would please help us have a measure of faith for that day. We also had much that we needed to forgive as others tried to hurt us. We had to turn that over to the Lord

We can't always make things work perfectly, can we? I have this mini-message on my computer. It is from a song by Leonard Cohen: "Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything; That's how the Light gets in." (BTW, I grew up with you in the MP 12th ward. Your mom was one of my mutual teachers. What a great family!)

Liz DaytonJune 14, 2013

Your insights into the Gospel have been a true blessing in my life. They have given me a greater appreciation for the love and compassion the Savior has for us. Thank you for helping so many of us draw closer to Christ. May the Lord's richest blessings be with you and your family.

Thank you Brother Goddard. Everything you write has been inspirational and encouraging to me whenever I take the time. You are a blessing and truly one of the Lord's,best friends and helpers here on earth. I didn't know you were sick. Be strong, and thank you so much for all of your kind encouragement to people like me who don't even know you.

I too, had no idea. Thanks for telling us. May the Lord bless your family and home.

Pamela BoshardJune 14, 2013

Thank you for sharing your news. I have felt uplifted. I really enjoy all your articles. Undoubtedly you (and all of us) are ever a witness of God in every life experience. I have printed this article for my friend who is going through similar experiences. Here's to your joy!

AnnaJune 14, 2013

If the day is busy and there is time to read nothing else, I will read your articles or save them for a more quiet time. Your writing consistently reaches into the deepest part of me like no one else's. Thank you for sharing what you have learned of our Father's overarching love for His precious children. No other message is as important as recognizing that one is unquestionably loved, and then seeking to become a loving person.

My wife Pat has recently been diagnosed with chronic congestive heart failure, renal failure and has been confined to the house, mostly the bed as the only treatment that will help in her battle. At 77 the doctors say the normal valve repairs that are on offer to most other people, are too risky for her. I have just finished reading your article, it was inspiring and uplifting.......and strengthening, as I have found most of your writings to be. God bless you and your family in your struggles, Fortunately, even though we are halfway round the earth from you, we have felt of your spirit, and are encouraged by your testimony and endurance, which is what the Lord requires of us too. Thanks and God Bless.

Dennis Hess MDJune 14, 2013

We have been praying for you the past two years, and know now it is the will of the Lord that you may precede your Mom. And thank you for your example of valiantly enduring to the end

SheriJune 14, 2013

Roslyn Huege de ServilleJune 14, 2013
