I LOVE this article. I am a professional artist and never thought of art as a metaphor for motherhood, but it fits. Children are a work in progress. We need to blandish, not force them in teaching correct principles. When working on a project, I don't merely draw or paint, I FEEL what I'm trying to convey on the canvas. And, yes, when the painting is finished, I stand back and look at the product from afar. It is different from looking at it up close. Just like the everyday little things we do in raising our children. WHen they're grown, we look at them from afar and hope what we aee is "purely astonishing". Thank-you for giving me a new perspective on motherhood- one that I understand.
